Does anyone have experience with maltodextrin? There are two camps: one states it has the same glycemic index number as table sugar. The other states it is metablized differently and does not alter BG levels.

Any thoughts?

I am looking at a glucosamine chew, because my cat just won't eat her food with Cosequin in it any more. Arg.

Here are the ingredients (based on he weight, she would be getting one chew 2x/day):

Active Ingredients Per 2 Soft Chews
Perna Canaliculus 300 mg
Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) 250 mg
Glucosamine HCl 250 mg
N,N-Dimethylglycine HCl (DMG) 50 mg
Manganese (as Mn Proteinate) Soft Chew 5 mg

Inactive Ingredients - brewers yeast, canola oil, chicken liver flavor, glycerin, natural mixed tocopherols, propionic acid, soy lecithin, Sursweet (maltodextrin, sodium alginate and calcium sulfate), whey

Thanks.

Hey thanks, but this is a chew specifically for arthritis, not for pilling purposes.

You can still wrap it in something tasty like a pill pocket or piece of cheese and see if that'll encourage him to eat/chew it ... although cats don't really chew, they usually lick, rend, tear, and gulp.

I would not be concerned since it is last in the list and thus there is very little of it in the chews.

I agree; since it's so far down the list, it's probably not enough to make a difference. So, depending how expensive it is, I would just buy it, try it out, and if it raises sugars too high, not use it any more and find another option.
