Hi,
I haven't posted in a while because my boy Jeckle has been in diabetic remission for months now :) Friskies has been a life saver!!! I'm not entirely sure about the carb content in the pate formulas now since they contain rice. According to my rough calculations, they all seem to be in the 14% range. I've tried contacting Purina several times now but they act stupid and don't answer correctly or at all. But it has been working beautifully no matter what the carb content is.
Unfortunately I have a cat with stage 2 kidney disease also. She is being managed with Friskies as well but her phosphorus level is creeping up. I've started to add a binder to the food but I understand using a food lower in phosphorus is the better way to go saving the binder for later stages.
I did ask for samples of Hi-Tor Neo and they LOVE it. I chose that brand because it was the lowest carb renal food I could find with 15.08% carbs on DMB (verified with company). It also doesn't seem to aggravate my boy's IBD. Has anyone used this successfully with their diabetic cat? I've only sporadically offered a little bit and Jeckle's average bg is 89. On days following Hi-Tor it was 102. Not high but higher. Do you guys think it can be added to the rotation once a day safely? That means 1/3 can once a day? No guarantees I know and I will be checking his levels regularly. Just wanted to know.
I know there are foods like Dr Elsey's out there. I'm experimenting with that as well. But in the end it's gotta be eaten and not cause diarrhea :)
