My vet pointed out that Mimi’s one tooth needs to be pulled and it might be preventing her from reaching remission sooner. If pulled could it help her chances of remission even more?
she had a struvite stone 4 months prior to diabetes diagnosis (which they say is caused from infection) and then pancreatitis.
Could a tooth be making her sick all of those times?

does that make sense?
Thoughts?

also nervous about the anesthesia stressing her little diabetic body out.

I’m going to tag a few but please whoever I don’t, give me what you know!

I'm a newbie, but I'm sure more experienced members will be in to help. I don't know what the dangers of oral surgery are, but infection can certainly raise blood sugar levels, and a bad tooth is infection. I don't know if that tooth has caused all your issues, but an infected tooth can effect other areas of the body.

Yes, an infection can increase insulin needs and thus prevent remission. However, there is no assurance that extracting the tooth will result in remission. Diabetic cats seem to be prone to pancreatitis but I have not heard that it can cause struvite crystals.

An infection can contribute to higher glucose readings. I'm not sure by removing the tooth that Mimi will be able to go into remission. However she probably is also experiencing pain and removing the tooth and treated with antibiotics will prevent the infection from spreading further into her body.

Infection and inflammation can also cause a cat that is in remission (diet controlled) to fall back out of remission. Better to address the bad tooth as soon as possible.

Is Mimi frail? Underweight?
Does your vet think there is a bigger risk for her to have a dental for some reason?

Have you read this, put together by other members with diabetic cats?
