Question about giving raw chicken liver

Hi guys,

It's me again...after a looong hiatus. Again, I apologize for not being a very good forum participator. The only time I'm really on the computer is in the morning for just a little while before I go to work. After that, I don't touch my computer again until the next morning. And usually when I'm on it, I'm doing things for my salon's Facebook page, researching cool ideas for hair, etc. OR taking care of bills:(

Corduroy's been doing okay. His BG levels have been a little higher lately and I think it's because I'm feeding them the raw food again. I've been doing this for about two weeks straight now, first with the Feline's Pride pre-mix and now with the recipe from Dr. Lisa Pierson. Last night, I made Dr. Pierson's mix, but forgot to slightly cook the chicken thighs and the chicken liver. I fed them some of this already and they seemed to be fine, but now I'm wondering if this will be safe to give them? I've been reading different thoughts on feeding them straight-up raw chicken liver and I'm a little concerned :? I would hate to think I went through all of that preparation only to have to throw it away now, but I will if I have to. Any thoughts on this? The liver only makes up about 8% of the amount of the chicken thighs, and therefore an even lesser percentage of the entire recipe.

Again, sorry for my absence. I hope everyone and their kitties are doing well!

In the past, I've tried raw chicken livers with Blackie, and even steamed chicken as treats, but found that they made her BG's rise. So, I stopped. It could be that is the same thing that you're experiencing, too, with Cord's #s. You may want to experiment by taking away the treats, and instead of treats, use brushing as a treat and see if his #s go down. Just remember, everything you try is an experiment in some form or fashion, and if something doesn't work, try something else. Sooner or later you'll have stumbled upon something that works. Hang in there. You're doing a wonderful job!

When I was feeding raw, I didn't slightly cook anything -- not the chicken or the chicken livers. I used the same pre-mix as you're using. I never had a problem.

I don't use raw (I can't....just can't stomach the innards thing), but I do know that Dian does and she does not cook anything ...not even pre-cook. Never had an issue that I know of.

Thanks ladies!

It helps to know that other people have done it successfully. I just second-guess myself sometimes. I'm going to work on getting Corduroy's numbers up again on his SS soon.

Thanks again and have a great Sunday! I'm off to do hair (updos) for a bridal show!

Green Power!!!
