Hello,

I was considering changing my boys to Friskies pates since it could help save some money over the long run, but noticed that rice was one of the ingredients. I know that a lot of members here feed their kitties Friskies, so I hoped someone could shed some light on this.

Since rice can raise BG, how are your cats getting along with being fed the Friskies? I thought that rice (along with wheat gluten) were both no-no ingredients to watch out for in the wet foods.

Thank you for your help.

The dose makes the poison; the carb calories are under 10%, similar to what would be found in a mouse stomach. Unless your cat is sensitive or allergic to rice, it should be fine.
I feed all of mine Friskies pates, except mixed grill.

My diet controlled diabetic cat Wink also eats some of the Friskies Pates, the Friskies Special Diet ones and a couple of the Friskies Classic flavors like Turkey & Giblet and Supreme Supper. These are all around 4-6% carbs and he is maintaining normal BG (blood glucose) levels eating the Friskies Special Diet foods and alternating with the Fancy Feast pate style foods. Wink has been off insulin for about 22 months now, and this is the diet that is helping him to stay off the insulin.

There is not enough rice in these foods to make them medium or high carb so they work well for our diabetic cats. We consider <10% to be low carb.
