Thanks in advance to anyone who can answer.

I thought 'nadir' and 'peak' were the same thing.

But the dosing chart says
If nadir blood glucose concentrations < 200mg/dl, but peak is >200mg/dl. Then Increase every 5 to 7 days by .25-.5IU depending on if cat on low or high dose of insulin.

I am not getting when to hold for 5 to 7 days when I look at equation above.

Does peak mean something else?

No, nadir is the lowest point in the cycle. Often about 4 to 6 hours after giving insulin. peak is the highest point, usually the preshot test.

But when I looked up definition of 'peak' a while back I got answers like this:

http://www.arab2.com/kb/glossary/diabetes/p/1233.htm

Which says:

Glossary of Diabetes Terms
Term : Peak action
Definition : The time period when the effect of something is as strong as it can be such as when insulin in having the most effect on lowering the glucose (sugar) in the blood.

EDIT Maybe there can be 'peak' insulin action where BG it is at its lowest and 'peak' BG number where it is at its highest as you mention. Is that it? But that is really confusing. Is their another term for the highest BG #s for a day? EDIT

But we aren't talking about "peak action", we are talking peak "BG readings". That can be confusing though, perhaps we need to clean up the language a little.

ED: just saw your edit :-D yes that is it. Around here "nadir" always refers to the lowest BG, often we refer to the High number, but sometime also the peak. Yes, it should be cleared up.

You are correct. Definitions on the old board are:

nadir:

The lowest point on a BG curve, often considered the same as the peak insulin reading.

peak:

the time period when the insulin is strongest causing the blood glucose (BG) level to be lowest. The peak time will vary depending on the individual cat and the type of insulin used.

Thanks Barbara,

I knew I read somewhere that nadir and peak were the same thing.

Always found that chart information of when to hold for 5 to 7 days confusing but never remembered to ask about.

Reading the dosing equation , it looks like peak would mean the highest numbers but that is not what the defintion of peak is, at least at the places I looked it up.

EDIT I should clarify that , as written, it is straight off the Cat Protocol chart written by Rand and Roomp. Anyway. I always thought researchers made some kind of typo. But it must just mean the highest BG number. EDIT
