I should've included this in previous post. I wanted to get opinions/advice on the Convenia shot (long acting antibiotic) as the vet brought it up yesterday for Salem's lip (if it turns out not to be cancerous). Anyone have experience w/their cat having this shot? My other cat, Bailey, non diabetic and 13 yrs old, had the shot earlier this year for an upper respiratory infection and it helped him, without any side effects. I just don't want to give this to Salem & it affects his diabetes in anyway (since he's close to being officially in remission).

I won't use Convenia on any of my cats, but one person I correspond with on her FD cats numbers had her cat given it after a dental an her numbers ran high for about 2.5 weeks after that.

I would not expect it to have an appreciable effect on BG but the underlying conditions that necessitated the antibiotic can effect the BG

I would read this before I agreed to the Convenia.

On a personal note my cat had the injection last month (3/15/15). We have been lucky and no reaction to it. I had not read the information from Dr.Lisa prior to agreeing to the injection. If I had it to do over I would have opted for an alternate antibiotic. My personal opinion is this antibiotic is not worth the risk if there are alternatives available.

I hadn't read anything bad about Convenia until AFTER my vet gave it to Colby last week following his dental. His numbers have been horrible lately and I wonder if that is why. I'm requesting that my vet never use it again on any of my cats! I know he was just trying to be helpful and save me the trouble of pilling, but no thank you!

Hidey got convenia with his dental, and luckily didnt have any side effects. As to effecting bg, his numbers werent effected.
