In addition to DM, my kitty has CKD, and I just read that Carob gum can be good for renal cats (helps with toxins). However, there is a warning on the internet that it can mess with glucose levels/insulin.

Is anyone here using it with their DM cats? And, if so, did you notice any issues with glucose levels?

The dosages is 1/8 tsp mixed with 1 TBS water, then mixed with a meal.

Thanks.

Locust bean gum

Galactose and Mannose sugars are in it, so yes, they could muck up glucose levels, depending on the quantity used.

When you have to manage another medical condition, you adjust the insulin based on any treatment effects. In other words, if it might help, you can do a trial, monitor the glucose, and see if it helps the condition and if you need to adjust the insulin.

Thanks, Blue. Yes, I am a member of the CKD support group (the link you provided), which is how I heard about using the carob. Unfortunately, it is solely information on how it works with CKD and not how it affects diabetic kitties.

BJM, thank you for the suggestion. I thought about testing it out as well, but I'm still getting baby regulated.

Some days I fell like I'm grasping at straws! So, I just thought I'd ask if anyone else has actual experience to save me the trouble (guess I'm lazy).

Thanks so much for the replies!
