Question about canned food.

How long will can cat food be good for after it is opened? In the past when I knew I was going to be gone for 24 to 36 hours I have frozen the can food and put it in a timed feeder. I set the feeder to change every 12 hours. All this was before Frisky was DX with Diabetes. I never had a problem with her and the food was always gone. I was just wandering about this.
