I called CanadaDrugsOnline and PharmacyRXWorld. The first one has two prices for the Lantus Solostar pens...$160 for pens that are shipped from Canada or $128 for pens shipped from Turkey, both with a $10 shipping charge. They are both shipped with ice, but we know that will melt before getting here which is why I want to order now before its 115 degrees in the shade here. When I asked how long it would take to get to Las Vegas, I was told "it shouldn't take too long."

The second pharmacy only has pens shipped from Turkey for $110 with free shipping, shipped with ice, should get here in less than two weeks, but their shipping guarantee gives them 22 days.

So.....which do I buy? Keeping in mind, of course, that I can get the Solostar pens here at Sam's Club for $213, $43 more than the first pharmacy with their shipping price included

Well at least if you buy from the Canadian place it wouldn't take 2 weeks. Not if you went the priority shipping way, i was just at the post office yesterday and shipped something to the states and the post office said with priority shipping it will be there guaranteed in 4 days. Or you could always go the Fed-ex or UPS way.

Patty, giving you some personal experience (in the waiting) with pharmacyrxworld.com
My shipment was sent out from them on the 22nd i should have them here by the end of next week.. I was told 7-10 days from the time it was shipped.
I'll let you know when they get here, the condition, etc. if you want me too..

Have a wonderful Day!
Champs +6... Very Cool
One more thing i thought of.. If you have a Costco (similar to a Sams Club) near you, you can get single pens for around $40.and some change.. If you wanted to or you could go
the 5pk route and save a little money over Sam's. Just FYI

That would be awesome Squirrel!! As soon as you get your shipment, let me know so I can get mine ordered. Your order is supposed to be coming from Turkey, so I REALLY want to know how they arrive and how long it takes.

And I do have a Costco close by. I asked Sam's Club if they sold a single pen and they said no so I just assumed Costco would be the same. I'll have to give them a call!!! Thanks for the info :-D

I bought a single pen at Target, 26 bucks with the coupon.

Bought Lantus pens from Canadadrugsonline. Took 16 days from Turkey. They came with a cooler (werent cold when i received them). Havent used them yet.

Patty, I will most definitely let you know. Hey i wanted you to know also, when i placed the order, i asked that they send me an e-mail as to the expiration date of the pens coming. They got back with me the next day (Exp 9-2013). Doesn't really matter with me since Tommys doses are up in the hemisphere right now, but that would really be a nice thing to know for some one dosing at a very small amt.
I hope that you're Costco sells the single pens too. It's helped me out a lot.
Have a good night Patty,
Squirrel & Tommy
Natalia that's good to know about the Target pens for the future in case of an emergency run.
I too am worried about the pens arriving cool.

I just placed an order yesterday with canadadrugsonline.com and my shipment was $128.00 plus $10.00 for shipping and also coming from Turkey. They also told me that they package it with dry ice in a foam cooler when it is shipped. I'll let you know when I get my order!!

I hate to use all of you for my guinea pigs, but what the heck! :-D Please, everyone who has an order coming in, as soon as you get it let me know.

Natalia, I have a coupon so I'm going to call Target tomorrow and see if they'll sell me one pen.

Hi Patty,
I received my box of 5 Levemir cartridges from CanadaDrugsOnline two weeks ago. The package arrived in about 9 days (from British Columbia) and had a cold pack inside the foam mailing box. The insulin was cool, but not cold. I elected to get the Canadian insulin at a higher cost because they told me over the phone that the Turkish would take 18-20 days and would not be shipped with a cold pack. Perhaps their policy with Lantus is different from Levemir?? Anyway, I didn't want to take the chance with regard to keeping the insulin cool, so I paid $50 more for the Canadian manufacture.
Hope this helps. I have not opened a cartridge yet, but the expiration date is in 2013.
I have ordered Lantus from CanadaDrugsOnline in the past and been completely satisfied.

Ella

Thanks Ella!! That helps a lot. I was thinking also that I should just go with the Canadian manufacturer also, even though it's more expensive. It's still cheaper than here in the States ;-)

I've bought insulin from Canadadrugsonline with no problems. The last time, it was shipped on a Thursday and arrived the next Tuesday (and it was Memorial Day weekend, so there was a holiday thrown in there, too). I thought 4 "business days" was pretty fast shipping. I bought the insulin coming directly from Canada, not Turkey.

Patty, definitely if money isn't really an issue, it sounds like the company that ships from canada is the way to go. No ones had problems and all good experiences so far. I went with Pharmacyrxworld because i had too right now and because I had asked the question about purchasing from Canada about a month ago and this was one of them that got a good score from some of the members here. Ella had me nervous, so i just went back to the site I ordered from and it does state in the pharmacist notes that the Lantus is shipped in refridgerated packaging. I needed to double check for myself. I'll still let you know how it works out when they get here.
For what it's worth, I don't think any of us mind being guinea pigs.. We're happy to help! :-D
Have a good evening Patty, give champ some smooches from me!!

Hi again, guys,
I just "remembered" a detail I should have mentioned in my post. CanadaDrugsOnline told me that the Levemir shipped from Turkey was shipped directly from the manufacturer and that they did not ship with a cold pack. Since Levemir and Lantus are made by different companies, that would explain why the Turkish Lantus is shipped with a cold pack: it is the policy of the manufacturer, not CanadaDrugsOnline. I hope this clears up the problem and sets your minds at ease.

Ella

Yes! Check their website. They give you a form for you to tape the prescription to. Or you can have it faxed from your vet's office (you cannot fax it yourself). If you live near the border and go to Canada occasionally, you can just go and buy insulin: no script required.

Going to throw my two cents in here....The last time I ordered lev I ordered it from here: http://www.globaldrugsdirect.com/DrugMoreInfo6059.aspx It took a while to get to me, so long that I called the company and they told me that the lev was coming from Turkey and that it would take 16-22 days to get to me. It took longer because the didn't send out the order right away, I believe they sent it out four days after I ordered it. It did get to me in 22 days from the time I ordered it. When it arrived, there was a cold pack in the styrofoam container. It was cool, but not cold. I'm using it on Spot now, and there is nothing wrong with it. If you get down to brass taxes, I believe that Lev is made so that you can take a pen with you w/o keeping it cold, they suggest that the unused pens be put in the fridge until being used. Please note that I said I believe....at my age, I tend to remember some things and for some reason, this is sticking in my mind...Please, anyone, feel free to correct me if I am wrong!

I believe you're right Bev. Lantus is also supposed to be able to be left at room temperature with no problem for up to a month. That's why they say to start a new pen (or vial) every 28 days. But if you keep it refrigerated , you can use it for much, much longer.
