PZI User Question

Hi! I asked this question on the FB page, too, so forgive me if it seems redundant. I sort of did things out of order tonight because of work. But I got home, gave Buddy 2 chicken treats at 8:30, tested him and he was 256. Then I fed him a little wet food and waited 2.5 hours and just tested him again, he was 183! So I gave him a little more wet food from the can for his dinner. Question: do I give him a shot? I heard under 200, no shot. But that was advice from a non-PZI user. Thank you!

Hello and welcome to FDMB!

This reply may be too late to be useful (sorry!) but the general guideline to 'not shoot under 200' is for those folks who are new to dealing with FD, and who don't have data about how their kitty responds to insulin. The most important thing is to keep your kitty safe. Those with more data/experience about how their cats respond to insulin do certainly give shots lower than 200, and/or may give a reduced dose if they see a lower preshot number (and are using PZI).

You may also want to consider posting your question on the PZI forum here at FDMB.

The fact that your kitty's BG dropped after feeding may mean that his pancreas is working...

Edited to add: Did you give the shot? And if so are you able to monitor him to see what happens to his blood glucose levels?

Sorry it was so quiet when you asked your question. The board is very quiet after about 10pm Mountain time in the US. Luckily Elizabeth is a UK PZI user and she covers some of the nighttime hours here.

Let us know what you did and how it worked out. The good news is that he went down after eating. This is often an indication that the pancreas is starting to work again. It does make dosing more challenging. We'd be glad to help with that.
