hi. Today my cat tested 409 in the AM so I gave her usual 1u. Her PM test was 162 so I didn’t shoot but her +3 is 401. Can I microdose her now with .25 to last until morning? Thoughts?

Hmmm. I would have shot the 162 if you could monitor. You have plenty of data on her. And that said, can you be off your schedule tomorrow AM ? And what dose amount were you thinking?
I cant be off schedule She had a hypo our of the blue this Sunday so I was nervous. I could have shot a reduced dose? Only .25u

Something is better than nothing. I would probably shoot .25 dose to just contain the numbers some. But, you might not be able to shoot on time tomorrow depending on the number you get. And Can you monitor her any tomorrow?

No I cannot. If I shoot .25 now and have a teetering number, can I shoot like .75 or .5 ? I can wait an hour max tomorrow after her usual shot time. She eats small meals often during the day.

I wanted to get you my reply fast but, wanted you to know my reasoning with you shooting later with a smaller dose. Your signature says she had a DKA in June 2016. Even though that isn't real recent, DKA kitties are treated a bit differently about skipped shots as not enough insulin is a contributing factor.

What type of meter are you using, human or AT2?

HUMAN. I just shot her so I hope I made the right call. Her patterns are usually very high preshots. I have never been able to get her down below 300. I am hoping the switch to PZI helps.
Her DKA was brought on by high blood sugar combined w predniszone bc of her arthritis rxd by my vet that basically almost killed her. We didn’t start insulin until a year later when she was acting odd.

I think Bubba's diabetes was brought on also by steroids given to him when he went into shock after a few yellow jackets stung him. It was a year or so later for us also before we realized he was losing weight and peeing like a race horse and then got the FD diagnosis.

When you get a chance, maybe add human meter to your signature so that can help peeps help you.

That 43 you got on Sunday must have been scary but, the good news is that she came right up for you.

Good luck with tomorrow's AMPS.

On your SS, if it were 3 hours past the shot time, add +15 in the cell or + 13. 5 it were 3 1/2 hours later. That way you and anyone else looking at the SS know exactly how late past the regular shot time you gave insulin.

Jena I assumed you first posted tonight's thread over in the ProZinc forum. Tomorrow, if you need any assistance, the peeps over there are more knowledgeable with ProZinc and PZI and can help you with dosing. In a pinch if there's no response right away you can try The Main Forum for more eyes.

I don't want to do you a disservice by giving advice for an insulin I no longer use.
