Purina Beyond Grain Free Dry Cat Food

I was wondering if anyone had heard anything about this new grain free cat food. I can't figure out the carb % in it either. Thoughts??? What about the expensive EVO and YoungAgain? I am looking for a dry cat food option for my diabetic kitty. Thanks!!!

I get leary of anything that has an ingredient with the word flour in it. Cassava root flour. Google says the Cassava root is 26% carb. Rice is 15% carbs.

ETA but cassava root is lower on the glycemic index then say wheat.

Rough calculation brings that food in around 27-28% carbs....way too high! Some folks have had good results with EVO and Young Again but some have also reported EVO raised their kitty's BG. I believe some folks are also using Wysong Epigen 90.

Just curious why you want the dry food if your cat is eating Friskies? I have a kibble addicted sugar cat who has refused wet food since she joined our family 5 yrs. ago and believe me, there is nothing I would like more than to be able to ditch the dry food!

Well, his BG is finally under control, and we are down to only giving half a unit... and even then his BG is often under 100. We only feed him 1/2 a can 2x a day of Friskies. We have 2 other NON sugar cats and it is a heck of a chore to feed 3 cats twice a day canned food. They are also CONSTANTLY hungry. I am not home during the day to feed them lunch. I have tried to leave some frozen canned out, but the sugar cat is so ravenous that he eats everything in sight and it doesn't last. I wanted another option. I would like to be able to leave some food down for all 3 kitties during the day. It would also be nice if we could finally wean him off the insulin since he is only taking .5U and be able to go away for a weekend and leave some dry food down. We haven't been able to go anywhere since October since we have had to take care of our little sugar baby.

I can certainly understand your dilemma. Menace's little brother is a little food vacuum cleaner so he tries (and sometimes succeeds) in eating most of the food unless I dole it out and act as a security guard! A lot of folks here use timed feeders and there are some available, that only work based on either the cat's own microchip or a microchip tag they wear on a collar. They can be pricey but it might be worth it to be able to ensure your sugar doesn't get into the kibble and that everyone else gets an appropriate amount of food. There's a thread or 2 (maybe even 3) about them here. If you do a search for "Feeders" in this site, you'll find lots of info. Good luck!
