Pure Pumpkin

I have a question. I've been reading up on pumpkin for cats with IBD. I guess it helps with constipation and diarrhea? Riley hasn't pooped in a day and half and I have been giving him about a teaspoon a day.

I'm wondering if all this soft food is causing him to be stopped up along with the antibiotic? He took his last dose of that lastnight.

I'm not sure about the cause of the constipation but I have given my kitties pure pumpkin before for constipation. They're big fans. I've also given them Miralax, but they would vote for the pumpkin.

Looks like Riley is kind of new to the insulin and if he's also been on antibiotics, his system is probably a little crazy right now. Hope he's feeling better soon!

CJ had constipation for a few weeks when I transitioned her to a low carb canned (soft) food diet.

I give Marshmallow 1 tsp. pumpkin every night for diarrhea. It works like a charm (bulks up loose stools) and she LOVES the pumpkin! She comes running when she hears me getting it ready and sits at my feet waiting for it.

Hopefully the pumpkin will help Riley too.

If Riley seems uncomfortable, there could be a partial or complete obstruction. Pushing more food through with a blockage may cause rupture of the intestines, so touching base with the vet is a good idea. Riley could need an enema.
