My name is Tracy and my cat, Pumpkin, was diagnosed on Thursday. She was born in a Feral colony but abandoned by her mother. She has had one health problem after the next her entire almost 8 years. I found and started bottle feeding her when she was only about 4 inches long.
I have several other cats and dogs and have dealt with a number of other animal illnesses including renal failure, congestive heart failure, feline vaccine-associated sarcoma and asthma but this is the first diabetes cat I have had.
I am home testing and she has been prescribed 1 unit of Lantus per day for the first few weeks until we have a better idea of what is typical for her. She is on (now) a low carb, wet diet (wild calling) and we took her off the oral prednisone she was on for her asthma so she will only use inhaled medications for that moving forward.
She got no insulin at all yesterday because she was around 100 all day and then this morning back up to 332. Can I assume that wide variations from one day to the next are not unusual, especially at the beginning?
