Good morning, I'm looking for some advice/experience from those of you who may have switched from ProZinc to Semglee (or Lantus) and/or have experience with ketones. Jack's numbers were not really coming down on the ProZinc and so I asked the vet to switch to Semglee or Lantus (was only able to get Semglee generic so that's what we are moving to) We started at 1unit of generic Semglee this morning, from 5 units of ProZinc. She was unable to tell me what to expect on his numbers, but said not to increase to 1.5u until at least 3 days (6 cycles had passed) even if I see 500+ on the BG. Does anyone have any advice or experience they can share? I'm working from home so I can monitor his BG every 3 hrs today but other than that I'm a nervous wreck he's going to go sky high...he was already 372 at his AMPS.
Also, Jack has been showing ketones (0.3-0.8 mmol/L until this morning when we got 1.0) in his blood (completely unable to get a urine sample from this boy) which despite an emergency trip to vet for fluids, and continuing to do 200mls fluids daily (just about a week now) they seem to be increasing instead of decreasing. The vet doesn't seem as concerned about them as I am, and claims other than bringing the BG down (obviously) and fluids there is nothing to do for him. I am not seeing any signs of ketoacidosis....he's eating, drinking, moving around, etc. I don't smell anything wrong with his breath. Any advice or anything else I can do for these? And what is a true, run to the ER and bankrupt myself ketone number on a Nova max Plus blood ketone meter??
Thanks in advance!
