how long does it take for insulin to start working? Molly started insulin on Sat 1 unit twice a day. Lowest reading has been 297; tonight was highest yet at 448. I assume we probably will need to increase dose, the vet wanted to start off small which I definitely agree with. I talk to her tomorrow but just curious from others experiences when it actually starts helping regulate? Could I be somehow giving the insulin shot wrong? (I worry about this a lot)

Sometimes it takes a week or two for their bodies to learn to "use" the insulin. If it's only been 4 days, that is pretty early in the process. One thing that is important is to get some numbers 5-7 hours after the shot so you know how low the insulin takes her. It could be that, if she drops low midcycle, she bounces back up for the next preshot.
What is she eating? We recommend wet low carb food.

I definitely will work on getting numbers +5 and +7. I'm not great at using the meter yet but much better already than Saturday ( the first time was a disaster for me and Molly!) it's hard during the wk when I'm at work to test a lot. I'm glad to hear it maybe is just taking time for her body to adjust. I worry that me poking and prodding is stressing her out and upping her glucose too. She prefers to be left alone but that isn't an option with this!
I've been transitioning her food to wet Friskies pates from i/d dry. She seems to like that. I tried fancy feast but she puked after eating it so I haven't tried again. Vet recommends the w/d but I haven't given her that much after reading on here it's no good.
I use the u40 needles and do gently mix prior to drawing out the insulin. I give it on her back/ neck area. She seemed to not feel the shot at the vet but yells at me when I do it so I hope I'm not hurting her. I haven't drawn any blood or anything (I don't think).

I'm glad to hear Molly's doing OK with all the new stuff you're both getting used to. As Molly's body gets used to the new food and insulin, her energy levels and engagement may very well improve. I certainly hope so.
