Hi everyone

Has anyone had or heard of a cat that has a reation to prozinc>? I have a cat that has been very lethargic using prozinc.. Just started (1 week) so mostly high numbers 150-450
No ketones xrays negative blood test (cbc) are within norms for a diabetic, slightly elevated bun
Something else is going on besides the diabetes here.

Hope everyone and theirs is well

Yes, some cats can experience adverse reactions to a particular insulin.

Are you testing for ketones? See the secondary monitoring techniques link in my signature on how to do that.

Also, pancreatitis is a common comorbid condition. Will the cat let you rub his abdomen without expressing distress or discomfort?

Have you checked for dehydration? If you gently pull up the scruff of the neck and let go, does it snap back quickly, or stay pulled up? If the latter, there likely is dehydration of a moderate level. Also, lift a lip and press your finger on the gums, then remove; if the pink color comes right back, all is well. If it stays blanched whitish, dehydration is present.

Sorry, thanks for your reply but I am looking for something a bit more specific. Please forgive me

I want to know if anyone has a cat or knows of someone who has a cat that had a reaction to prozinc and if so what symptoms did they see.
Thank you

Hi,
I've been hanging around the PZI forum for about a year, and I haven't heard of any kitties who have acted that way after a Prozinc shot. I have heard of some cats who act "odd" after a shot of Lantus, so I suppose it would be possible for one to react that way to Prozinc. Perhaps post in PZI and ask? Some of the people there have been here a lot longer than I have, and they might have seen this happen to someone.

Carl
