Hi i have a 14 1/2 year old on prozinc. He's been diabetic for 10 months now and is well regulated. (Also a ckd kitty w hypertension and pancreatis) I test twice a day (alphatrak) and dose at anything over 175 on a sliding scale(never over 1 unit). Rarely does he go over 215 and many many doses are skipped. He had a 3 month remission after the initial month on insulin but lost it due to a near fatal bout of pancreatitis. After recovery he again went into remission for a month. We dont do trp and he will not transition off of dry. Any suggestions to help get him back to remission or should i just be happy with the every other day insulin injections? Thanks.

Hi Heidi! I'm so sorry to hear that your kitty is needing insulin again. Do you have a spreadsheet we could look at to see the numbers you're getting? And have you been getting any mid-cycle numbers to see the reaction to the insulin? Some cats can get into remission multiple times, and some can't, but we can certainly do our best to help!

Hi. I really don't have any recent spreadsheets as its really too unpredictable. For example he tested at 135 am/150 pm on mon, 160 am,176 pm on tues (gave .5 unit in the evening), 195 am, 210 pm on wed (1 unit am and pm), 118 am, 140 pm thurs, and 108 am 160pm on fri, 195 am 150 pm on sat (1 unit in am). He eats solid gold indigo moon dry -18% carb and 1/3 of a can of low carb food. Refuses Young Again currently and dislikes canned (why the 1/3 can!). He went into remission initially (after 3 weeks of insulin) on purina one dry and held it til the pancreatitis. I know i need to lower his carbs but i have limited options with his stubborn dry food preference (i know evo is low carb but too high in phosphorus for his ckd) thanks for ideas!

If you find good food which is lower in carbs but phosphorus is a problem then I would suggest to use a phosphorus binder. I think it is very important that your kitty has low carb diet if you want remission.
