Does anyone one here currently give their cats prozac for behavioral issues. I've thought about it in the past for muffin but never did and just dealt with her urinating out of the box by keeping her in the kitchen. In the past she would only go on laundry on the floor and started to on the furniture so we confined her to the kitchen during the day and my bedroom at night, with access to her box at all times. Every since fuzz passed away though she's been going on the kitchen counter and even urinated on my air purifier and my bed while i was sleeping in it. I know its not the litter box that she's avoiding because she uses the box regularly as well and i took her to the vet to see if she might be sick but they tested her and she is healthy.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you,

I used Prozac for one of my cats who was extremely fearful of Rusty (adopted in March).

He was less afraid, but kind of distant / detached. It did not help his litterbox issues -- Rusty was scaring him every time he tried to eat and use the litterbox.

Now that Rusty is confined to the bedroom, Mauser no longer needs the Prozac and has started using the litterbox.

I use Clomicalm for Callie's agression. It has helped a lot. She gets 1/2 pill each day. I found if I split it in two (1/4 pill each time) and give it in the morning and evening that seems to help the best.

There is still the occasional agressive behavior, but it definitely has cut down on the amount of it.

do you have Feliway in the US?

this has worked wonders for me.
and bonus: it's natural. made from natural pheremones, sends out hte message "Im happy and everything's ok" to the cats. plugs into a diffuser.

Highly recommend it!

Also, we lived through a factory explosion, which also exploded my apartment--luckily we weren't hurt but kitty was traumatized to say the least, panicked, under the bed, even hissed at me for months.
the vet recommended a homeopathic product called "nervrosyl"-made by Boiron-drops on her food. I was doubltful but worked a miracle! After 8 months that Sara had spent cowering and hiding in fear, she became normal again!

dont know if you can get them in the US, but they were great,

Thanks for all your input, I called the vet and Muffin is going in on Thursday for some blood work to make sure her numbers are all normal and they will put her on prozac after they review her tests. I'm hoping this will help her, she seems so stressed or anxious all the time.

Simon has been on prozac for about 5 years. He would spray every time he felt anxious or upset, just seeing another cat outside in HIS yard would set him off. Since starting prozac we have had no spraying issues. He is a bit more laid back, not as high-strung as he used to be.

Hopefully you can get the generic prozac from your local pharmacy. It comes in 10mg TABLETS that you can break in half to administer 5 mg. per dose. Here I get 90 for $10, it lasts 6 months.

Good luck. :)

My cat, Otto, is on Prozac for spraying and has been for years. I get mine (with prescription from the vet) specially compounded by a pet apothecary to the size he needs. I always get mine in the mail quickly after the vet calls it in. Great place, they always call to follow up personally on how the animal is doing.

I don't know if posting links is allowed. If not, I apologize and will remove it.
