I finally got a response regarding carbs in the 2 flavors I feed Smokey. After my third contact to them they finally sent it by email. Still have not received the snail mail yet but the 14 days isn't up. So maybe I will get it.

I told them my cat was diabetic and I needed to know carbs or I would have to stop buying Proplan. Of course they told me I should be using the prescription food. But here is the info. Smokey has been on this for a year. So glad I don't have to change.

"We are listing the requested information for our Purina® Pro Plan® brand Cat Food – Savor™ below:

Purina® Pro Plan® brand Cat Food – Savor™ - Adult Beef & Carrots Entrée Classic has 30.33 calories per ounce, 10% protein, 5% fat and 1% carbohydrate.

Purina® Pro Plan® brand Cat Food – Savor™ - Adult Chicken & Spinach Entrée Classic has 32 calories per ounce, 10% protein, 5% fat and 1% carbohydrate. "

So, what they gave you was the guaranteed analysis, which is on their website: https://www.proplan.com/cats/produc...ree-classic/#ingredientsandguaranteedanalysis

Unfortunately, since the guaranteed analysis is in maximums and minimums, they aren't useful in determining the Protein/Fat/Carb content of a food. You have to request the as-fed analysis, and getting that from a lot of food companies is like pulling teeth.

However, looking at the ingredients of both the foods, there doesn't seem to be anything in the Beef & Carrots and Chicken & Spinach that would significantly contribute to carb levels, so they're probably ok to feed. If you don't see any spikes to Smokey's BG, then they're probably fine.

With what you're spending on a can of the Pro-Plan, though, you could probably afford a higher quality premium food without byproducts where you know exactly what the protein/fat/carb/phosphorus content is (lower phosphorus foods are good to feed senior kitties). Proplan is what, 89, 99 cents a 3 oz can? Wellness regular and Core canned foods are typically about $1.79-$2 for a 5.5 oz can (less if you buy online, or by the case at your local pet food store). There's a store finder here: http://www.wellnesspetfood.com/store-locator.aspx. In my experience, I've found that the big box pet food stores like Petsmart and Petco typically charge way more for it than a local feed or pet food store. If you do decide to switch, make sure you're mixing the proplan and the wellness together for a bit so that his GI system gets used to it.

Good luck!
