Proin

Our new vet wants to try Proin for my civvie, Mouse. He gave us chewable tablets that are huge. Mouse gets a half. Last night I tried cutting that half into 6 pieces. It did not go well. This morning I tried dissolving it in water and syringing it. I got in half before I gave up because I thought she'd die of misery. My question is....are there pills out there? I guess they don't make a liquid anymore. Ideas for how to get these monsters down her?

THe active ingredient in Proin is Phenylpropanolamine (PPA). I used that active ingredient human drug for my Patches II. It seems to help but was not a real solution.

I used Propalin syrup for my dog. She took it without problems, but cats are more demanding. It's palatable, you can try it if it's available in your area. https://www.365vet.co.uk/pro062-propalin-syrup-100ml.html

I looked at what the Proin pills look like. They can certainly be crushed until a fine powder is made (I give to my cat Zodon now - it's an antibiotic, the pills are big and he has stomatitis, there's no way he can swallow something like that). I crush it with the back of a spoon until it become a fine powder, then I mix them into the food, with some water.

Another option is to place it in a gelatin capsules. That is very helpful especially for meds that have a bitter taste
