Hi. Are these good prices for insulin and needles? I got ghdm from Shoppers Drug Mart (Canada). Anyone know better prices?

These are in Canadian $$ do would be slightly less in US $

Needles - $47.45 for 100 needles
Insulin - $88.13 for vial
Accu-Check strips - $100.56 for 100 strips. Meyer is free when buying strips.

Good? Bad? I'd prefer cheaper strips as that works out at $1 per strip.

are you in Canada?

the needle prices are high. I paid 13.50 US dollars for box of 100. (sams or walmart)
the only rather affordable strips at brick/mortar store are Walmarts relion strips which many here use at $35/ per 100.
I bought strips variously on Amazon, ebay, etc...
Many here use http://www.adwdiabetes.com/?gclid=CLy748-67MECFaM7MgodKWoAWw
they sell the Arkray meters which are the makers of the Walmart/relion meters and strips, so they are interchangeable and even cheaper to purchase here.

ebay is fine if you are careful, ask about expiration dates if not noted, make sure they are sealed, and look at their ratings.

ETA: I now see you are in Canada...not sure about shipping costs on the above sites to Canada..

ADW does not ship to Canada.

Try Safeway, Canadian Superstore, or Costco for the supplies. Shoppers is one of the more expensive places to buy insulin supplies. I get my syringes around $38 at Superstore or Safeway. BD has pretty much a monopoly here on syringes. Insulin seems a bit pricy too. I got a 5 pack of Lantus for around $100 and that's 50% more insulin. It's been a while since I bought a vial but it didn't cost that much. Test strips at London Drugs here are $77.99 for a pack of 100. A quick check on Ebay shows lots in the $40 range, some with shipping included. You'll go through lots of these. There are some reputable vendors on Ebay.

Canada by far has the cheapest insulin though.

glad Wendy came along being local. I asked another Canadian member and she said she mostly got her supplies in US at Walmart.
Costco is one of the cheaper ones here so they may be there as well.

I get my test strips through ADW. I get them shipped to someone across the border and it's about a 1 hour trip to pick them up. I buy in bulk. There are places in the US that act as mail boxes that will forward things onto Canadian addresses.

Thanks Wendy. I don't think there is a London Drugs close to me but definitely I can try Superstore. I haven't used or seen the Lantus pens - are they easy to work? I have not heard of them. Is Ebay reliable? I am a bit nervous of ordering things online. Call me old fashioned!

Do you live in Canada? I am in Ontario not far from Toronto.

Thanks

Juliet

Juliet, London Drugs is a western chain but a big one, I'm in B.C. I'm sure you have similar in the east. I don't get the Lantus pens, get the cartridges instead. They are like a pen refill but less parts (so slightly cheaper). You can think of them as being like mini vials. If you look at this post on Handling and Storage on Lantus there are pictures of the cartridges and a video showing how to get insulin from the pens, which is how you work the cartridges.

I know a number of Canadians (and Americans) have ordered their supplies from Ebay. You just have to find a vendor that is trusted. It can make a huge difference in price.

For location, if you look at people's avatar picture - a lot of us have the location listed under it.

How do you know the vendor is one to be trusted on Ebay??

I'm heading to Canada today or tomorrow to buy insulin. I just priced Lantus at Target last week and it's $260 for the vial!!

I can't find a Safeway or Canadian Superstore close to the border (Buffalo/Fort Erie), so I'm sticking with Shoppers Drug Mart. I'm saving regardless!

How big is your vial? That is super expensive. I got mine from Shoppers Drug Mart for $77.99.

It's the regular u-100 unit vial. That's the disparity in price between the US & Canada, hence why I'm heading over to buy it in Canada. I don't need a script eitehr, which you do in the US.

Oh you mean that's Target US's price? I thought you meant Target Canada. Yes, insulin is much cheaper here by the sounds of it.
