Checked him 30 minutes later after eating and was 209 . I didnt know what to do because I was told not to shoot if he was below 200 and I knew I couldnt wait much longer so I just did a half unit instead of 1 unit
Based on your experience level and comfort with shooting I think you made a good call that will keep Smokey Safe
Once you have more data under your belt you will gain the confidence to shoot a low number like this. The important thing when you decide to shoot lower than you're used to for the first time that you're home to monitor
Thank you.. a big concern is that his PM shot is at 10pm so if I would of done the full dose I would of been up all night testing. I just tested at +2 and hes 248 so I may have been ok to do the whole dose . But I'll learn

Totally! It’s a big learning curve for sure, I’m still trying to learn as much as I can too!
Also, there is absolutely no shame in knowing that you have to sleep 10pm IS late. Smokey is so lucky to have a mom that is caring for him despite her hectic schedule
You should read a little about “shoot low to stay low” it’s in a sticky at the top of the forum. I learned a little bit more about how Lantus works through reading that and it gave me a little more confidence to try shooting lower and lower. (While being home to monitor, with data to back me up )
How low I am confident to shoot personally for me depends on if I will be home or not to monitor. For me this means I am more confident at night because I’m at home. It also means multiple alarms through the night. In the AM though, I can’t be skipping work because I got overly confident shooting insulin. If I was in your situation for Mowgli at a number I wasn’t sure I should shoot, AND couldn’t get advice within the time frame I needed it I think I would have done exactly the same thing
OMG--that scarf on Smokey....LOVE IT ! Great calls in an anxiety provoking situation . Thank you for sharing because I learn a great deal from reading threads like these. Amandas advice about reading the shoot low to stay low is so helpful. All the info pertaining to Lantus gives me a much greater comfort level with the insulin, especially with lower numbers, vs the Vetsulin we were on . I guess it was good I had that experience!
