Preferred Meter?

I'm not sure whether I should be posting this in Health or Community, so if it's in the wrong place, I apologize! I'm just wondering what meter most people use/prefer? I currently have the Freestyle Lite, but the test strips for it are expensive, so I am considering buying a ReliOn Confirm, since I know I can get the Arkay GlucoCard 01 strips for it through ADW at a great price, AND I live an equal distance between 2 Walmart stores & can get strips there. I want to be sure that I'm using a meter that is reliably accurate & takes a very small amount of blood (Which the ReliOn Confirm seems to be good for, on both counts.)

As much as I don't want to jinx anything, I should mention that this meter would be used for a new 5 y/o sugar-kitty we are hopefully adopting through DCIN. He has been untreated for a year & I want to be sure I'm getting good readings on him. Our caseworker said they could provide a meter-they usually provide a Contour. I don't want them to have to provide me w/a meter if I already have one, when someone else may NEED one. And the strips for the Contour are nearly as expensive as the Freestyle lite. Whatcha' guys think?

Quite a few folks here use the ReliOn and are happy with it.

Strips can also be purchased on Ebay for less than half that at the stores, if that helps. Just be sure to check for the expiration date and that they are unopened.

I use a Relion and like it a lot, because it's very simple and I'm...electronically challenged. I started with the Confirm but switched to the Micro, which uses the same strips but is smaller and easier for me to handle while sticking a large cat with a needle. I like the Micro better because of it's size/shape, but the Confirm was fine as well.

I use the relion micro and have been very happy with it. Cedric knocked it off the counter a couple of weeks ago and I thought he broke it. Nope, still works fine.
Strips are reasonable $20 for 50. Meter was around $9.

I have two meters. I have the Relion Micro that I use for Maxwell and love it. Musette is a DCIN cat and I have a Contour from them and they supply her strips. Both meters work extremely well, although I think the Relion takes a smaller sample but the contour seems to sip faster. The nicest thing for me with the Relion is since Maxwell is OTJ and not tested often I can purchase small batches of strips. But both meters are good meters and I have compared them side by side with very close results.

We just switched from the alpha Trak to the relion micro. We were not unhappy with the alpha Trak but needed something less expensive for all the testing we do. We also have the same meter called the Arkray mini from American diabetes wholesale and it uses the same strips as the relion micro and confirm. It has cut our costs in half for testing.
