pre dental clindamycin

Buddys appt for a routine cleaning is next friday, vet did not prescrible AB until i mentioned he took Clin. for 5 days before surgery
last time, and then she said to pick some up and give him for 5 days. Last dental, almost 2 years ago, he had infectioned gums- this time not.
is it really necesary to give clindmyicin beforehand, if routine cleaning and no infection present? it's $35 so i need to be sure.thanks!

Dentals can release a lot of bacteria into the bloodstream, so it isn't a bad idea. I know I have read of it before.
