Going through a Power outage. Tree fell down on some power lines. Looks likes it’s going to be down 12 hours. Can I wrap the insulin Prozinc in ice to keep it cool?

Excerpt from this post. Keep it cool if you can but don't let it freeze it out ice right up against it

  • Prozinc It is recommended to store Prozinc in an upright position under refrigeration at 36º- 46º F (2º-8º C). Do not freeze. Protect from light. Per contact with Boehringer Inglehiem Vetmedica- studies indicate Prozinc should stay stable up to 28 days at room temperature up to temps of 78 degrees F. Protect from light, store in box or in cupboard.

Looks like that first try at 0.25U was a one-off, interesting. We do recommend holding for a week before increasing though on the more conservative method, or every 3-6 cycles while seeing blue nadirs on the more aggressive one (which given your schedule I'm hesitant to recommend)

going forward what do you think. Keep him at .25?

If you leave it in the fridge and don't open the door any more than absolutely necessary, it'll probably be fine. You could take some ice, put it in a bowl, wrap the insulin in a washcloth and set it on top of the ice and put the whole thing in the fridge too. You just don't want ice to be in direct contact with the insulin.

If you're home this weekend, you could try 0.5U when there's a few days/nights you can be around to monitor. We'd like to see nadirs around 90, and ideally some slightly lower blues.

I have some things to do on Saturday but plan on on the .5 dose. When my power comes back on I’ll update the SS. Hard to test with flashlights.
