? Posting for a friend | 1yro Sphynx vomiting foam with blood, diarrhea all day

My friend just adopted this Sphynx. After a 13-hour road trip, he brought him home last night. He rode well in the car. He got microchipped and vaccinated. Unsure if he had these done yesterday or if they were something the shelter/rescue did for him (cat was only in shelter for a dayish).

He got all the supplies for him last night. I am still getting information from my friend who is panicked. He cannot afford an ER visit as on the way to pick up the cat, he hit a deer and totaled his car.

He said his cat has been vomiting all day, diarrhea all day, and just threw up foam and blood. He says that he vomited about 4-5 times to day. Possibly irritated his stomach enough to have blood the last time?

He said he slept a lot today, but that could also be because of the long road trip. He called the ER vet and they said it could be stress.

Oh my God that's so awful . I hope one of the experienced members here will see this and might have some advice

Okay, so here is an update for everyone. He told me he started vomiting once he had some wet food. He told me he is allergic to chicken. I asked him what the wet food was. Basically, the place that he adopted from gave him hill's sensitive skin/stomach, which basically all have chicken broth as an ingredient when I told him to go check. He's never owned a cat before so he though that since it said tuna on it, it wasn't chicken related at all.

He also told me he didn't really eat much the first day. I assume because of exhaustion and stress.

However he says the diarrhea started before he was given the wet food, basically as soon as they got home. Stress related maybe? I told him to contact the place he adtoped him from and ask if they were feeding him the hill's there, and ask about all this. And then the vomiting started after the wet food was given.

He said he has been playing a little bit and is purring on his lap.

He's also eaten and drunk A LOT since he got home. He had some dry food as well, but still waiting on a response on what there is in it.

He just started meowing. My friend said it wasn't like howling, but a very sad loud meow. He drank some water, but he just wont stop meowing.

Personally, I'd get the cat in to see a vet. It may be stress related. Or it may not be stress related. I would rather see that your friend erred on the side of caution.

I agree. I told him the same thing, but it was too late to go to the vet, and the ER vet was far too expensive. Hopefully, he can get him in this morning. Haven't heard anything new from him yet. :(

How did he really conclude that? What did the previous caretaker actually feed? In commercial cat food most contain chicken and fish and the detailed ingredient list will enumerate the ingredients. A lot of the time the descriptive label can be misleading.

He said that the shelter said the previous caretaker was homeless and couldn't afford him. Not much more detail than that. The shelter said he's allergic to chicken but sent him home with food with chicken in it.
I told him to always check labels and that he needs to call the shelter this morning and ask some questions.

I’m just checking this kitty is not an diabetic cat, correct?

I should have clarified, sorry. Kitty is not diabetic.

Tiny update: He's taking him to the vet today, and also, upon checking last night, the dry food they had sent home with him also had the alleged allergen in it. He threw up one more time last night, and I was told he spent from 2AM to at least 2PM napping next to his caretaker. Bit of a difficult situation, because it seems difficult to say if it's just pure lethargy from whatever is going on with him or if it's stress-related/exhaustion from a long road trip and being in a brand new environment. I hope he gets some clear answers at the vet today, hoping for the best outcome.

I just don't understand why the shelter would inform him that he is allergic to chicken but send products home with my friend that have chicken in them. I know he should have checked the label first (I sure would have), but it also seems very negligent for them to send food he's apparently allergic to with my friend.
