Well after a stressful day at the vets Kitty still bangs in at 193 at the PMPS.

He just devoured his dinner. Not sure what I am going to do this evening for a shot.
The vet gave .5u @ +4 this morning.

Hi Sev,

Haven't posted on your thread lately. It looks like you and Kitty are doing great. I tend to be cautious so wonder about that for tonight- especially with her likely to not feel great. Did she get pain meds and an antibiotic? What do you think about .3? BUT only if the number is sure rising. The food may mess up a second test, right?

Hi Sue.
Not sure yet. I am going to see where he is at +13.
I just fed him and gave him a pro-biotic.
I think I will just mix it with his food next time as the pill is big and the paste is well quite pasty.

.3 is a possibility. The vet suggest adding saline to the shot when the quantity gets small to make sure he is getting it all.

Well, that's a new one. Thing is, unless you shake it/mix it in well, you still won't know if he is getting all the insulin or saline. We used to be able to dilute our insulin with Eli Lilly's diluent that, as usual, they discontinued. We could then dose in smaller Humulin increments. First they discontinued their beef PZI, then they discontinued their Humulins except for R and N......not only messed it up big time for people but also for kitties.

Its probably a couple units of saline.

Whoa! Looks like no shot tonight. Even with food, it went down. Fantastic.

Well I hope he does not go down to much more. He has been going long on the insulin. Sometimes 17 hours.

Well, you know how to manage lower numbers. You have had a lot of experience already.

Be careful with the food, feeding very small amounts and gravy only as needed. You don't want him getting full and feeling crummy and refusing to eat to bring up the bg.

Just about to test again.
No reason for it to be dropping now. 9 1/2 hours since his shot.

I don't know. Any chance the vet gave more than you thought?

You're prepared, right? High carb gravy food, syrup. Might give some gravy only to being him up some?

I was not informed that he could run low!!!

I am watching him.

Going to test again in a few minutes.

Just gave him a little Freshpet to stimulate.
Friskies is at the ready as is the tea spoon.

Thanks Robin,
I was gonna say the anestisia!
Shakes ran low for over 24 hours after his dental in Auguest
I shot reduced dose for almost 2 days
be careful and if I were you I dont think I would shoot tonight no matter how high he might go
It seems that he is very sensitive and reacts quickly to insulin

I wonder if I should just give him more food.
He has only had about half of his normal daily feeding. I can tell he is hungry.

Not planning on shooting anything tonight.
I figured he would be running in the 200's right now.

Let him eat......to hell with the numbers tonight......then he'll go get a good long snooze and you can relax. Of course that is after you know he's not going to drop any more.

He's going to drive several of us to drink  Did you know the vet was going to shoot?

Yes.
I thought they would shoot .25. However they went with .5u.

Still he is 10 hours in.
That probiotic couldnt have done anything could it?

Hey Denise, Harley ran low for a couple of days after his dental too, it got my hopes up for better results.

Hope, I had to google GMTA  but thanks.

:-D Maybe you will get to sleep tonight. Remember at least 2 rising numbers before you relax.

Gee thanks. ;-)
The last thing I suspected is that I would be sitting on him tonight.

Vee are vatching you!!

Okay, test again in MAX 1 hr. to make sure Kitty is going to be a good boy tonight.

Yup.
Sounds good.

Probably be up 3 or 4 in the morning to do a test to see the trend.

What kind of bed is that for such a gorgeous boy?

Mybuddybinks from Lantus forum posted this pic again and I doubt you've seen it. I think it is perfect for all of us

Well he jumped up to 382.
Had to crawl under the Christmas tree to give him the shot this morning.

Unknown territory because of the meds. I would just give him a cycle to adjust and then you can get back on track.

Thats what I was thinking. We'll see where this goes.
