Prozinc: Stubbie was sailing along in high 100s, mid 200s on my Reli-On. Two vets loved that, loose control. Then hospitalized with triple threat: pancreas, liver, lower bowel and ketones. Then major herpes, with eye shut for four days. Yes, all has been treated and he is back. BUT, his pre-shot was 410 this morning, and nadir is high 200s at best now on the Alpha-Track. On the same low carb wet and dry foods as always (he prefers dry, sadly) and I did try a couple of new wet options: Weruva Paw Lickin' Chicken and Weruva Fowl Ball (read on the forum that these two are ok). Also Merrick pates.

He "could" be grabbing a couple bites of "regular" dry food, the best possible quality from others' dishes, but the numbers are too high nonetheless with 3.0 units (using U-100 syringe and 7.5). This 400 trend has been continuing for about two weeks now, and I don't like it. He's drinking more water. Lantus numbers were never consistent. I know that every day numbers are too high, there's organ damage...:(

Thoughts? THANK YOU!

I think that might be called triaditis. Someone more qualified will have to help with treatment ideas. Oh, on edit, herpes. Did they give steroids? Pretty sure I've read that steroids harm the pancrease's production of insulin somehow.

I've noticed some training which seems to have occurred with Tara. We kept her crated every night for 3 or 4 nights, in a very big dog crate with extra room for a small litter box, canned food and water dishes, plus room to stretch. It's like her own miniature room! She seemed to like it, sometimes at night the boys play a little too hard with her, and she gets stressed. At night while she was crated we'd put the dry food out for the non-diabetic cats. During the day we'd let her out, and we'd take the dry food away from all them, meaning for those 4 days Tara only had access to wet food. Last night she asked to not be crated, so as good cat owners we complied with her request. :cat: While it may be too early to tell, she is eating more canned food now even though she has access to both. It seems the 4 days of wet food only gave her more of a liking for wet food.

It might be something we repeat from time to time, say if we want some BG readings knowing she is only eating a particular food. You could do something similar, to test Stubbie's numbers on a more controlled diet.

Hey there. That is a great idea. I am going to ensure he can't get to dry food (I can shut the door, and monitor my office during the day.) You did a smart thing. Thank you. 400s are a no-go.
