Tested Buddy and the stick looks like it is almost trace. What can I do to stop it from getting any worse????

More water, any tricks on getting him to drink more water.
Already put water with food every feeding.
Thanks Jan

Re: Possible Trace Ketones??

When we want to encourage water consumption, we try to make the food the consistancy of soup.

Other than that: Wash all water dishes thoroughly; if it's a fountain, clean that thoroughly, including the motor and replacing the filter. Change the water at least once a day. Don't use the water that comes out of the faucet first thing; let it run for a moment first. Put extra water bowls down -- we try for one at either end of every floor. Add ice to water. If this is likely to be a permanent thing (not likely with ketones, more probable with CRF), consider adding a pet fountain.

Re: Possible Trace Ketones??

Jan, test again next time he pees.. check the date you opened your strips and make sure they are still good too. I find it odd he is throwing ketones after his beautiful string of numbers last night. Don't panic yet, let's see what the next test brings.

Re: Possible Trace Ketones??

OK, like I said its kinda between the negative and just barely that what I call pinkish color.
Someone suggested diluted tuna water to me??? That sounds good to me????

Re: Possible Trace Ketones??

He might like that. Keep souping that food like you're doing too. By the way, I notice you're not breathing again. ;-) Time to breathe. You need a second test so be watching for him.

Test for dehydration: pull the scruff up gently and see if it snaps back into place or slides back into place.. If it snaps back into place, I'm really suspicious of your strips or the test itself.

Jan, there are a couple of things that can affect the way you read ketostix. , the light--it should always be the same. Second--comparison. Test with plain water so you know for sure what a negative test looks like. And, as mentioned, these strips are age sensitive so be aware of the expriation date.
