Possible Dental Issues

Hello everyone, Dusty's still doing well and OJT. He started eating less on Friday and still less this weekend. I thought it was just a little stomach issue but I can tell he wants to eat but is hesitant. I noticed he was drooling a little more than usual (he always drools when sleeping LOL) on his right side and he won't let me touch or scratch him there or look in his mouth. I'm convinced he has a dental issue and am working on getting him a vet appointment ASAP. Just wondering if there's anything I should watch out for or be careful with if they end up doing a dental cleaning/tooth extraction on him. Are there certain meds or antibiotics that shouldn't be given to a cat in remission? Thanks everyone!
 
Well he has an infected molar. Got him scheduled for extraction and teeth cleaning next Tuesday. They gave me antibiotics; ClinDrops (clindamycin hydrochloride liquid) and it must taste good because he liked it and starting eating his food right away. Otherwise his labs all look good, whew, what a relief.
 
I would love to hear updates after the procedure is done!

My cat has teeth issues but she is old and I am concerned about the procedure.

Good luck! I know other members saw good things after the teeth were fixed.
 
Day three on antibiotics and he's doing fine, seems to have less pain already. Little does he know what's in store for him next week :nailbiting:!
 
Well I dropped off Dusty this morning for his tooth extraction and cleaning. Praying all goes well, I'll post an update once I pick him up. 20180313_173900650_iOS.jpg
 
Dusty’s home! He’s alert, walking around making sure everything is where it should be lol. He’s hungry but hesitant to eat, I’m sure he’s in pain. They ended up pulling 6 teeth! His BG before the procedure was 200, a little high but considering his infection and stress it’s understandable. I’ll test him in a few days and hope it drops back to normal. I’ll post more updates as he recovers.
 
Well less than an hour after being home yesterday Dusty was eating. He wasn't hiding or anything, everything was pretty normal. This morning I tried to give him his pain pill but was unsuccessful. He's just impossible to pill but he doesn't seem to need it, he ate his breakfast like normal and is acting normal. I guess I won't bother with his pain meds. Another week of antibiotics and we'll hopefully put this behind us. Beni my 14 year old civie is next, I can see his built up plaque so I might as well get him fixed up now before he has issues.
 
Dusty's still doing well. He was a little quiet yesterday as he must be feeling some pain. I haven't given him any pain meds since he's eating normally and he's impossible to pill. He's a little apprehensive every time I approach him for his antibiotics (liquid), he probably thinks he's going back to the vet. We're almost done with his antibiotics and things will go back to normal soon.
 
The antibiotics were starting to take a toll on Dusty's appetite so stopped them after 11 days. I did a lot of research and it seems it's ok to stop early depending on the purpose of the treatment. Seems like new research shows that the opposite is true of what we've been told all these decades; more is not good, more can actually cause antibiotic resistance as opposed to what we've always been told that less antibiotics cause resistance. Who knows, I stopped it and his appetite was nice this morning and so was his demeanor, he was just sick of me chasing him and pouring that yucky liquid down his throat. LOL :smuggrin:
 
Well I'd say this adventure is over. Dusty is back to his normal self, he's sleeping with me again, eating and pooping normally, and his BG is back down to 90 and will probably go down further in his case. I'll do my 14 year old civie's teeth next month and hope all goes well too.
