Possible bereavement high numbers

Hi, my cat Zazzy was treated for diabetes maybe 4 years ago, and we were able to reverse it. He's been healthy ever since. 3 weeks ago my husband passed away. I've noticed weight loss and increased thirst. So today I checked his sugar and it was 377. He's only been eating pate. So I'm wondering if it's possible he is in mourning and his numbers are going up. Should I treat with lantus and how much? This has been a very stressful time in my life, and I need to get my Zazzy healthy again.

I just don't have the words for you, your husband , Zazzy and everything else. Let's just move on to Zazzy before I say something that has no meaning other than I cannot even imagine what you're going through.
I've had cats for over 40 years and although I always write something poetic about how they miss each other the truth is it rarely happens. Usually they know something is amiss but most often they just think "more food for me". That sounds cruel but I've cried a river of tears over the loss of dogs and cats but I've never been where you are now. Most cats just tolerate each other but the human/animal bond is something much harder to explain, I know I can't.
If these numbers persist make sure your meter has a fresh battery and your strips are not expired. Also have your vet do a 'wellness test'. I put the parentheses around wellness because they're never the same at different vets. Also include a quick dental check. Cats get sad or at least know something isn't right just like the rest of us, he's certainly picking up on your sadness no matter what kind of brave face you're putting on. I don't have the medical knowledge to say he's fallen out of remission, it's more likely his metabolism is messed up just like yours. I'm pretty sure you're not eating or sleeping right and the same goes for Zazzy.
I wish I had better answers, for now know that this is a thoughtful and knowledgeable group you've joined and that I'm not the only one who cares. Please stay in touch for both your sakes.

I'm so so sorry for your loss.

I'd have her checked out to make sure the numbers aren't from an infection. If you need to start insulin, 1 unit is the recommended starting dose.

Forgot this. Lantus and Prozinc are much better choices the Vetsulin/Caninsulin.

I am so sorry for your loss.

I would not be surprised if Zazzy is reacting to your emotions. No doubt you are both experiencing loss and stress. Whether the stress has caused the higher numbers is anyone's guess.

As others have suggested, I'd have Zazzy looked over by your vet. A fructosamine test will let you know if numbers have been elevated for several weeks.

I am so sorry for your loss. Yes it is possible for animals to grieve when the lose someone they love, whether human or another pet. Because this has been a stressful time for you too, Zazzy may be picking up on it too. I agree you may want to have him checked by a vet to rule anything out. Also give him extra attention. You both may need it right now and hopefully it will give you some comfort.
