I took him off Gabapentin because it was making him a zombie. I also took him off Buprenex because I need to see if he actually needs it or if it's making things worse for him.

Now he keeps going to the litterbox every ten minutes with super soft stool. He strains and strains to get it out, though. Several times, he's lost strength while straining and ends up laying down in it, which is no easy feat to clean off. He is a little agitated, too, and won't stay in one spot longer than a few minutes. He'll lay down, then get up and move a few feet and lay down again. And he doesn't head straight for the litter either. He does it in stages, getting closer and closer to the kitchen, then finally making it in.

Poor little boy. Is there anything I can do to help him? What's going on with him? He gets wobblier by the day. I'm so worried for him. And his BG has never gotten stable. I'm beside myself again.

Have you tried a pinch of plain psyllium fiber (may work best mixed with the Stella and Chewey's)? It helps form loose stool and softens constipation by holding water in the stool.

One person here found that making a canned food very, very soupy and putting it out instead of plain water encouraged consuming it via thirst.

Sometimes, folks will syringe feed when the cat is inappetant.

See Feline Constipation for tons of info on the feline GI tract, how it works, how to help it when it doesn't.

The Bupe can cause constipation when used, and over time the body adapts to having the Bupe on board. When opiates are stopped, it can cause increased activity of the GI tract leading to loose stools. Restlessness is another withdrawal effect as well. Tapering helps to minimize withdrawal symptoms.

Withdrawal of the gabapentin without tapering can decrease the seizure threshold, and cause restlessness as well.
