Has anyone had this experience with their diabetic cat? Mine has just started pooping on the floor. Cant think why. Litter is clean and has not been changed to a different type. Just one more added stress from this diabetes.

His levels are consistently high - 18 and above (that's over 300 for US folks).

Thankfully I have an understanding vet who has other cats with diabetes amongst their patients. Hoping this gets easier.

He could be constipated and couldn't go in the litter box but finally got it out outside the box. My Dusty does that when constipated. Have you noticed frequent visits to the litter box like he's trying to go but can't? I started giving Dusty 1/8 spoonful of Miralax once a week and that took care of that problem.

Is your kitty on any other kinds of medicine? I had to put my guy on pain meds for arthritis and he gets a little constipated and poops on the floor. I give him a bit of baby food squash mixed in with his food and it helps him stay regular. You can also use canned pumpkin (not the pie filling, the plain canned pumpkin). Make sure the ingredients are just squash and water. Also, you can add water to his regular canned food so he gets more water. Hang in there!

Has he had any sort of medical issue lately (besides diabetes) that could have caused him discomfort while going to the bathroom-either urine or feces? Sometimes cats that get UTIs/crystals/etc, who have pain while eliminating, will associate the litter box with that pain...and in turn it makes them afraid of it. They don't want to use it, because they think that's what's causing the pain.

Beyond being solid, what does his poop look like? Sticky? Brittle? Normal? Lots of segments? No segments? Many little nuggets/balls? Poop is a good indicator of the health of an animal. I think it was on the catinfo.org website that went over the different kinds of poop and what you should be expecting to see. It was geared towards someone switching their cat towards being fed raw, but I think the information you'll need (as to what the different kinds of poops mean) is still there.

Best of luck to you, sorry you're dealing with this on top of everything else :(

I recently had this problem with my Noodle. He was suffering from a UTI at the time and must have been associating pain with the litter box, even though it wasn't from the right area of his backside. After the UTI was cleared up, he went back to pooping in the box, thank goodness. So sorry you are having this mystery on top of everything and hope it clears up soon. As others have said, the plain pumpkin really helps too. Good luck

It could be from diabetic neuropathy - the elevated glucose affects nerves and could affect the ones for the GI tract and sphincters. Getting the glucose lower may help resolve the issue.

Meanwhile, tarps and confinement to 1 room may make cleanup easier.

Also seehttp://www.felineconstipation.org to learn more about how the feline GI tract functions.
