Mickey diabetic, on 3.6 units of prozinc x2 a day his sugars were am 275 pm 277...I have not up dated my ss in a while, but he is in the low 300's high 200's

Back up to early Nov. he had an URI was on amoxicillin for 1 week. Which started the runs?. Not only is he going anywhere he wants to he is doing it on the cat bedding, rugs just where ever he has to go at the time.

2 weeks ago he was put on Metronidazole for 1 week for the diarreah, that did not help either. Called the vet friday he said give him benebac x2 day with w/d food which I knew he would not eat.

He had blood work in the begining of Nov. As he couldn't breathe out of his nose and his tounge was turning purple. Blood work was normal.

I am calling the vet in the am.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this.

I am at my wits end...I know I shouldn't be so concerned about my house etc..but he is ruining most all of the bedding and rugs.

I've been there! Willie at least has the courtesy to poo on the hardwood floors or on the cheap rug in front of the littler box, so I can't complain TOO much...

One thing that has helped get him back to the box some is a product called Litter Attract. It's just herbs (catnip?), but it has made some difference (though he's not exclusively back in the box yet). Found it at Petsmart: http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2754845

They also make a litter that contains the stuff, but I went with the Senior litter for my cats, so I used the add-on instead.http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2754845

Hope Mickey is feeling better and back to the box soon!

The mouth breathing and blue/purple tongue sounds like lung inflammation/asthma to me. If his tongue is really still blue/purple then that means that his blood oxygen is WAY too low and he needs to go to a vet ASAP. You may have more than one problem on your hands. As for the diarrhea - have you tried pumpkin yet?

They can only find what they test for ... so more veterinary evaluation sounds necessary.

Also, does he have any arthritis or prior constipation or partial blockage? If it hurts when using the litterbox to defecate, he'll avoid it and try to find a place where it doesn't hurt.

Got some pumpkin today.
He has never had a blockage. He does limp a bit, I was assuming from his weight. He is about 27 lbs. Have a call into the vet. He is supposed to call me back. Was hoping the benebac would help. Now I am going to go with the pumpkin and see..

Thanks everyone!!

High weight can make arthritis more painful, so his limping could be related to that - maybe ask the vet about arthritis.
