Poked myself with my cat's used lancet

Hi all. I know this must happen ALL the time, but I'm still freaked out because I have health anxiety and I can't help it. I just began testing my cat yesterday because he has been sick with diarrhea since Saturday and the only time he seemed to improve was after no insulin for 24 hours (since he hadn't been eating).

So, this morning he finally ate, so I picked him to test but didn't get enough blood. I picked up the used lancet and tried a second time. This time I pricked my own finger with the lancet I'd just poked his ear with. I guess I wouldn't have thought much of it if he wasn't also sick right now. He is improving on the anti-diarrhea med the vet gave us (and his sugars are normal without insulin!) but my other cat started with diarrhea yesterday so it seems like it must be something infectious.

After getting pricked I immediately squeezed out a bunch of blood and washed it. Am I being crazy for worrying so much? It just freaks me out that he's been sick with something he probably infected my other cat with and now I've picked myself with his dirty lancet.

Thanks for any insight!!

I'll add that we brought a stool sample today when we realized my other cat was sick too and it was negative for a parasite.

No need to worry....there are very few diseases that are transmissible from cat to human.

We've all poked ourselves at least once...and most of us many times!! It sounds like you flushed it out well so you'll be fine.

You may however crave raw tuna and think that sleeping in a sunny spot on the floor is the best idea ever!! ;)

The last time I did it, I had a strange desire to lick the backs of my hands and take naps a couple of days later.

Actually the last time I did it was after I already injected Leo, and dang that needle hurt. I wouldn't worry about it. This happens all the time on this forum and so far we are all still alive...and most of are still eating people food (I think).

lol. I have done this 3 days running now & my old cat's bum is always firing off.

It'll be fine , honestly. Says the zombified raggety woman.

If anyone asks I'll deny it. Cynthia is a vegetarian so it's recommended she get B12 shots. We have the same family doctor who knows I'm handy with sharp medical things so rather than waste the government's money she gets one in the keester :blackeye: :blackeye: :blackeye: from yours truly. I mean, there could be just about anything in that syringe!
But you all trust me right? I heard somewhere the inter-web-net-readers digest is forever. Can that be true? ;)

Wait until you slice a finger on the lid from a can of pig-slop wet food.:(
That hurts sooo much!
@ErinKC Just want to let you know, nobody is poking fun at you (if you were getting that vibe from some). If we don’t laugh while we are on this sugar kitty journey, we will cry. If it makes you feel any better, I let one of my civvies drink milk from my cereal bowl while I’m still eating it. I’m alive and well. Sometimes I get the urge to sleep in a small box though. :p

This is all really too funny. It's not just the poking and waving a lancet around your cat's eyes, we have 4 litter boxes next to the furnace so the air quality here is putrid, the one sink is always clogged with a dozen dishes and blobs of wet food, Cynthia can't get a moments privacy when she's having a snack because she can't say no.
When Hannah the dog was here I would pin CJ down on the bed and get Hannah up there, "Give Momma a big kiss" and she'd give Cynthia a five minute slobber-fest.
"Look Honey, all natural makeup remover! What's that rash on your face? Mmmm, you smell like poo-poo". What a romantic I am.
