PMPS lower than Midday

Well, Katie certainly likes keeping me on my toes. At AMPS +7, she was 171. Now it's time for her evening dose, and she's at 115! I'm waiting a short while to retest, but if she goes up, should I give her insulin? 0.75 U? 0.50 U? 0.25 U? Or should I just skip it entirely tonight?
EDIT: Retest 20 minutes later= 125.

Hi Jennifer,
I'm gonna take a look at your SS. In the meantime can you tell me the insulin you use?
Lori

Well your spread sheet is kind of interesting....wait an hour and see how high she goes. I'm thinking she may not rise that fast and you can give the low .5 dose.
I really don't think shooting late is that big of a deal on PZI and it would be really nice to see what she is doing.
Have you fed her?
If not you can.
Lori

no, that is unless she has'nt eaten much and is prone to not eating.
do you just leave food out for her to graze or is she a hoover ?

Hoover?? XD I put wet food down for them in the morning and at night, and she gets me up in the night for an extra feeding. She eats more at night, but that may be because of the forti-flora I put in the nighttime feeding.
I have to get up fairly early in the morning, so I went ahead and gave her 0.25 U. I know she'll be high in the morning, but I wanted to play it safe.

I've been trying to find her right dose. It used to be 1.5 U, but now that is too high. 1.25 U seems to be too much as well, but she's still going into the 300s, so I'm not sure if it is or not. I do know that 1 U is not enough.

Hoover is just a cat that eats everything you put down immediatly...like a vacuum cleaner!
That's fine, the .25
Ever think about switching insulins?
Lori

Not really. I think the vet prescribed the Prozinc because it's more flexible than the others. Are you thinking I should? What's the cost difference on the various insulins? (I'll pick up the answer tomorrow; I'm off to bed.)

ni ni.
about levemir. i just consistently notice alot of volatility with this pro zinc. the levemir just has a better track record for giving flatter curves.
as for cost...you can wait till you are running low on pro zinc, it's not BAD per say. but when you need to restock...or if you want to try it, well the cost works about the same per dose. you buy it at a regular pharmacy with a prescription. you don't buy a vial, you buy it in pens. 5 pens to a pack. it keeps it fresher and lasts longer that way.
i'll check on you tomorow k?
Lori

What about Katie's numbers indicate that an insulin change should be considered? Katie appears to be getting a good response to the insulin and I am sure there are cats on all insulins whose beans are trying to fine tune their dose. From the SS it appears she has only been testing for 5 weeks, I have not seen many cats become regulated within 5 weeks on any insulin.

I am just curious what the indicators are that warrant an insulin change should be considered?

Kim this SS does'nt look good to me. The numbers are high, low...no real consistency, extemes. I just like to put the idea out there that there are other choices, that's all.
Believe me it's not personal, it's just about the cats and the insulin that's all.
Lori

Have you thought about choosing a starting point and sticking with it for about 5 days and then adjusting from there? I was all over the place with doses too and I think we've gotten ourselves into a pattern of rebound and now I can't get good number for nothing. I've been trying to stick with certain doses to figure out what the dose really does.

Maybe start at 1u and stick with it for a little while no matter if you get a red PS to get better data. Then you will know whether to increase just a tiny bit or back down. Of course back down at bit if you get PS's that are too low or nadirs that are too low. Just from looking at your chart, seems that 1.5 is too high, no matter what the PS is.

Just an idea! It's frustrating, I know!
