? PMPS 75 and I still keep having to skip evening shots. Insulin too high still?

Good evening!
I am still having to skip the evening shots because PMPS is below 200. Today, Chia's PMPS is in the green at 75. And still green at +1 after his 1st dinner portion. Will be testing soon at +2 and see how much it climbs. I have taken more between cycle numbers and have been trying to get at different times. My thoughts are that the insulin is still too high for him and that I should try 0.75 tomorrow morning. Any thoughts on this?
Also, I finally bought him some treats (dehydrated raw salmon) that I am giving him every time I test him. Chia sure appreciates this! I am still needing to buy a timed feeder, too.
 
Hi there. I'm not experienced enough to give dosing advice but I did notice on your SS that every time you skipped a shot his numbers went to the moon. There are also some kitties whose numbers drop when they don't have food - maybe this is Chia? I'm sure some experience folk will stop by and share their thoughts. I'm interested in what the plan will be. A timed feeder like you mentioned may help with this conundrum.

I think the timed feeder will definitely help a lot. I am trying to give him smaller meals to see if this helps, but I need the timed feeder for when I am at work because I think he eats the majority of his food in the beginning of the day and doesn't leave himself enough for later on. I also think that he is still bouncing a lot because tonight his BG is low, even with the skipped shot and after eating his first dinner portion.

I'm not a dosing expert, but I have used ProZinc. All those lovely greens, but Chia would do better if you could dose him twice a day. If it were me, I would drop to .75 for three 12-hour cycles and see where you are. Be prepared to drop to .5 if you still can't dose twice a day. Right now, it looks like those high morning readings are either bounce or from the skipped dose, or both. This is the advice MrWorfman'sMom gave me, and it really helped my Billy. Yes, the timed feeder will help, but you are doing well to give multiple small meals as you can.

If you test for ketones, skipped doses are the time to test.
 
As you are doing SLGS Chia has earned a reduction in dose (dropped under 90) as per the SLGS method. His new dose will be 0.75 units. Hopefully this new dose will let you give the insulin twice a day.

And as mentioned above I would definitely be testing for ketones daily while you skip and while you have high BGs.

Multiple dinners? Multiple breakfasts? Snacks during testing? Maybe some food with the timed feeder once you get it?

Chia is going to love you for all that food!!! He may not like the shots and testing, but the treats are a hit I bet.

Next time Chia is begging for food when you get home, you might want to grab a BG test. He may be telling you that his BG is low. Some cats do that, so taking a test is nice, to see what the BG's are doing.

With Prozinc insulin, the pre-shot tests are the last ones to come down.
Makes those in-between time mid-cycle tests even more important.
Get them when you can, or even get a test when you first come home from work.
See what works for you.

The fact that you got a 75 at PMPS indicates the dose is too high, especially since you use a pet meter for testing.
Reducing to 0.75 was good.
He is bouncing from the skipped dose and low BG numbers yesterday.
Self protection mechanism kicked in and release all those sugars and hormones to compensate, as Bron said.

Please, don't wait to have us come look at Chia's SS.
 
Chia is definitely loving all the food and snacks and is not as vociferous about his dislike of the testing now that he knows he gets a special treat right after. He learned that association quickly!
He is definitely on the bounce today. I was able to give him his evening shot today with the new reduced dose of 0.75. I will see how the next few cycles look at this dose. And I ordered an automatic feeder today! Can't wait to get it. Yes, I am definitely working on getting this in-between readings. I said an alarm to do a +10 in the morning. I don't have any data at that time yet.
