Please Pray For Oliver, Desperately Ill Young Cat

Oliver, a cat I fostered for two weeks right after my Chloe died last July, is probably dying. He is only 2 y.o. and needs lots and lots of prayers, good energies to either help him get well or help him pass on to the next world. He's had a rough rough road even at his young age. His scratching/biting problem (broke the skin always) made adoption hard and he has been from one foster home to another, finally was in the right one for him - he was the only cat, NOW this! Rotten.

It looks like he has FIP. Can FIP be dormant for a year in a cat or does exposure to FIP produce symtoms very quickly.

I am so upset, my heart is broken as he has had so little joy in his life - never got his forever person. I am praying like crazy but know if it's FIP, little hope. Just want him to know he is loved, feel safe.

FIP is the saddest. Nothing you can do but let them go before they get too bad. My best wishes for Oliver, whatever his course.

FIP is a very weird disease and they are slowly learning more about it. It can be "dormant" in a sense. Almost all cats are exposed to Coronavirus, and that is what causes FIP, mutated coronavirus. There was no idea about why it mutates in some cats, however now they feel there is a strong genetic component. I do not think they have ruled out that it cant be spread cat to cat, since coronavirus is spread cat to cat.

When we at the shelter have a kitten with FIP and test the littermates.. almost always the other cats have a high titer..are already sick. We did just have a young adult who was sick and had it. We have had adults come down with it. the saddest was Louie, 9 yrs old. One of my favorite cats at the time..just not doing right. Its something I think of more with kittens but it can show up at any age.

If Oliver was with you, I know he was getting the love and attention he hadn't known before. Are you able to visit with him? I hope his issues are identified/resolved soon.

Thanks so much Jan -- FIP is lethal, no cure, no treatment. I haven't heard back from Simone if it is this, but sounds like it is. I just want him to be at peace, know he is loved, feel safe. Yes, hard when they are so sick.

Thank you everyone. I always remember how kind people on this board are. Chloe has been gone a bit over a year. Miss her always.

Oliver is in a foster home as I couldn't keep him at that point. This is a good one for him, nice person, no other cats. But then this. I hope they will not let him deteriorate much before letting him go. I do believe there is that next stage in life (not firmly, but tentatively), so I hope that there, Oliver will get all the love and security he was so missing in this life.

I have felt Chloe brush by me twice since she left -- I know this is a controversial area. But for me, it was so definite -- no other cats or dogs or anything around to produce that physical feeling of a cat leaning and brushing by. Gave me a great deal of comfort.

Oliver remains in my prayers. How good of you to care for him so. Also gald to hear Chloe visited you. It's not controversial IT is what it IS.

You know Oliver will be in my prayers and thoughts. Sometimes life is just so unfair. It is so nice that Oliver has you on his side. I'm sure he feels the energy. Glad you had a visit or two from your loved Chloe. It does help us to feel a little better. I know you miss her very much.

Thank you all so much -- I have to check with Simone on Oliver's status. Afraid of what I'll hear, but no matter what he is loved.
