GA Please help!!!

Hello,

My cat is a female about 13 yrs of age. A year ago or so, she got diagnosed with diabetes. We've been giving her her insulin ever since as well as her food. Her insulin intake just changed to 4 units in the morning & 1 unit in the evening of "Vetsulin" & her food changed to "Glucose/Weight Management m/d" about 3/4 a cup of serving everyday. Today is Wednesday and for Monday and Tuesday we did not give her her insulin because we did not have needles. Today I did give it to her but she still won't touch her food nor drink. I tried giving her tuna because she loves it and nothing. I tried giving her milk as well, and nothing. She can barely walk a straight line now, and keeps laying down. She won't eat or drink anything. Anybody has the slightest idea of how I can help her or what could be happening or home tests I can do to tell what is wrong with her? I'm waiting until the emergency clinic opens up... but until then, can anyone help me?! Please!

Briggiette, i'm sorry to hear that your kitty isn't doing well. Please tell me, do you home test? If so, can you test her now to see what her BG is right now?

No, we don't home test. We go to the vet once every month and they test for her glucose curb there.
 
She could possibly have diabetics ketoacidosis. Especially if she had no insulin for 2 days.
Do you have any test strips for ketones. It is important she eats something. Keep trying and maybe try giving her some sloppy food in a syringe.
Diabetic keotacidosis is a serious illness and needs prompt vet attention. I would take her to the vet as soon as possible.
Other possibilities are pancreatitis or dehydration. All these need prompt vet attention.
Also if you have given the Vetsulin and she will not eat, she will need testing of blood sugar to make sure she does not drop too low.
What time does the vet open?
 
Okay, well that is something that we all recommend to do so you always can check on your kitty especially in these kind of situations.

What @Bron and Sheba says would be possible.
And about the food, it's good to try it with a syringe, it is really important for you kitty to eat when she has insulin in her body.

Hope the emergency vet opens quickly for you to bring your girl there!
 
How long since you gave the insulin? If it was an hour or two after the insulin that she started to show the unsteady walk and lying down, it could be that the blood sugar has dropped too low. Was she perfectly OK before you gave the insulin?

No, she was still different before I gave her the insulin. But as time goes by she is getting worse. At least before she touched the milk. I gave it to her about 5 hrs ago. I'm calling different ER places now to see which is best for her.

To keep everyone posted, she apparently never cured with the UTI she had, so it got very bad & apparently she's very constipated. She does have ketoacidosis now. She's hooked on IV & will stay in the vet for 3 days until she's hydrated enough and can actually walk and eat. Her temp was very low last night at 96.6 but we bundled her up in blankets all night and cuddled and got back to normal at 100 by morning when we made it to the vet.
She is a trooper and a fighter and is getting better quickly.
 
So sorry your cat is going through this but at least she is getting the help she needs to get better. Are they going to do an enema?

Sorry to hear she has ketoacidosis but it is good she is getting the right treatment and improving.

Update #2: She passed away this morning... they were trying their hardest at the vet. She stayed over night for her first night and they called me this morning and told me she passed in her sleep... her immune system just gave out. He told me just wasn't in any pain. We have her now and will cremate her and put her in necklaces to keep close to our hearts forever... thank you for the wishes though. She fought very hard till she couldn't.
