I took Cody's BG at 7:30, it was 67. I was not going to shoot. I fed him 1.5 cans of food at 8am because he seemed super hungry. I was just about to leave for work and had a total memory relapse. I thought I had "forgotten" to give him his shot, so I gave him .6u. Then I remembered that I wasn't supposed to shoot this morning. I'm in a total panic. I can't really stay here all day and monitor his BG. My nanny can watch him and feed him all day...but will that be enough??????

what's his bg now??

To be on the safe side, Is there any way you can call in sick to work? give him the kero/honey, and high carb food, keep testing every 20 minutes until you get at least 2 readings that are rising. Call your vet and ask them to talk you through it.

thinking of you xx

Accidents happen. Don't beat yourself up. Let's just try to deal with this situation.

OK, if you've given .6 of a unit at a BG of 67(3.7) then that will need serious attention.
(Edited to add: Cody was tested and then fed at 8am and the shot was given at 9.45am, so the preshot number is likely to have been higher than that initial 67(3.7).)

If there is nobody at home who can monitor your kitty's BG, and give food/karo as necessary, then is there a vet you can take him to so that he can be monitored through the day...?

What action have you taken so far?

Do you have higher carb food? Karo/syrup?
Have you given any of the above?
Have you tested his BG since, and what was the result?

The insulin is going to start kicking in soon (if it hasn't already) and that will be trying to drop the BG. You do not want it to get much lower than your last BG test.

Stay calm. And please post an update as soon as you can. We need to know what the situation is at this time.

Thanks, everyone. I cleared my day and called in sick. Just tested again at +2.5 and he's at 82. I will be home with him all day and monitor frequently, especially as we get to the +5-7 hr range. I have FF w/ gravy and honey if needed. I'll keep you all posted. Thanks for being here for me!

Just wanted to offer some encouragement.....

You are doing great! Just keep testing him, making sure he is rising!

Send lots of good vines your way

Okey dokey, Tracy.

It looks (from Cody's SS) that he has dropped >150 points on .6 of a unit at times; and he may drop to low numbers quite early in the cycle, as he doesn't have much of a buffer there. So it's good that you're going to test frequently; good too that you have gravy and honey if needed.

Have you dealt with low numbers before?
In essence you will be trying to steer the numbers out of the danger zone using food and/or glucose(or honey). This could take hours, until you are past the peak of the insulin cycle.
You'll also need to space the food out (not feed too much volume in one go) so that Cody doesn't get full up. You may need him to eat later on.
If, at any point, you feel you can't do this at home then do please consider taking Cody to a vet. A vet could put him on a glucose drip.

just wanted to give a quick update. Cody's doing well. I've been monitoring his BG at least once per hour and have given him a few small servings of FF w/ gravy. His numbers have been in the 80-100 range and he seems to feel fine. I'll continue to monitor him through the afternoon and evening. So glad that I was able to stay home with him. Thanks for all of your support. It's so nice to have this community here!
