For three years I've injected my Dusty across his shoulder blades, which my vet recommended. After doing reading, I want to change the injection site. One suggestion was from just back of the shoulder blades to just in front of the hipbone on either side, from 1 to 2 inches from the middle of the back. If I do this, should I use always use approximately the same area, just alternating sides?

One site said you should not inject in the scruff one day, then in the hip or flank the next, since subcu does not guarantee absorption and you may see variations in control from one day to the next. Is this information accurate?

Can someone please give me suggestions? I'm absolutely stressing myself over this which isn't helping my kitty.

Thanks so much.

For Spitzer, I went a bit away from the scruff, in a loose area around the shoulders, and alternated sides when injecting. I figured same location, just opposite sides would give me approximately the same absorption rate, and Lantus does like consistency.

I asked my vet for a new injection site as when my boy started feeling better he would fight me every time i tried to inject in the scruff of the neck. The vet suggested just by his hip bone where there is a large amount of skin. He still tries to fight me off occasionally but it is alot easier

Do you give a low carb treat afterwards? Positive reinforcement can go a long way towards reducing resistance.

Not sure if this helps, but this is from the tilly's site:
It is best to inject the sides of the body and not in the scruff of the neck, where the circulation is relatively poor. Initially, I did not take rotating the injection site seriously. Promptly, Tilly had hard lumps under her skin. Then I started to keep a careful record of the position of each injection site, maximizing the time between two injections at the same spot. Within two weeks all the lumps had disappeared.
