my cat tigger is 13 years old has been on isulin for about 2 years now & that is under control. took her last week to vet cause she lost weight (2 pounds) and has been lying around a lot more. blood work came back total billirubin was high 0.6 that doesnt look too terrible cause normal range says 0.1-0.4. her cpk was low at 31 normal range for that is between 56-529. rbc count low 3.7 and hemoglobin low at 6.3 and hematocirt low at 20. platelet count also low at 85. the vet gave me pred 5 mg 2x a day and doxycline 100 mg 1/4 pill 2 x a day. she took both of these first 2 days & was eating some but def not as much as her usual self. she stopped eating as much about week or so ago. last night had hard time getting her to eat made her chicken & she ate that. this morning barely touched her food bought her 5 different brands (which i didnt want to do due to sugar) but needed her to eat at least something. she had a little but wouldnt take her pills. she urinarated yeesterday but has not gone at all today & did crap on my rug a little. please help with these numbers any advice. thanks i am waiting for my vet to open so i can bring her back in. she is just lying around and gets up a little bit. thanks

Please let the board no what kind of insulin your kittie's on and whether she's had a dose this morning etc.

Sending good thoughts for your Tigger. Hope the vet is able to see her quickly this morning.

Can't help you with what the blood work means but I would suggest checking for dehydration.

Pull up on the scruff of her neck. Does it go right back down or stay up for a bit?

With no urination, that is a sign to me of possible dehydration.

Does her breath smell of urine?

The antibiotic, doxycycline I think you mean, could be affecting her appetite. Perhaps ask your vet if an appetite stimulant is appropriate?

Did the vet have any idea of where the infection might be?

just came back thankfully they took me right in this morning. he thinks she has some kind of cancer in her body & feels fluid in her stomach. he said good chance she might not make it but i am praying that she will survive she always was a little strong kitty & somehow hopefully she will beat the odds. her platletes even dropped lower not a good sign. he gave her injection & hopefully will kick in soon it should work fast he said. he is trying to stimulate appetite & today her weight was almost pound & half higher but he thinks its fluids. def not from eating she has not eaten much at all. wil see i am hoping & praying that she will bounce back fast.

The low hematocrit is serious. It means that either the body is not not producing enough red blood cells or they are dying prematurely. The vet tos the best place now. Sending purrs and prayers.

Thanks tigger still not eating much at all very little last night. She is just lying with me on the floor will be calling vet again this morning when they open. I am still hoping injection will kick in but having doubts. She seems comfortable thanks for good thoughts

May be a non-issue now as you have other things going on with Tigger, but low platelet counts should be confirmed by the reading of a blood smear. Sometimes platelets stick together or aggregate as they are counted by automated methods. This can lead to false low counts. Looking at the blood smear under a microscope will help determine if the count is falsely low or not. Hope Tigger pulls through.....

Hi no it's def not false reading seeing how exhausted my little baby is and vet has been very good with her checked numerous times. She dropped even lower this morning and she has been sleeping a lot. I am hoping and praying meds will kick in and fast already. This morning not good and she had to stay at the vet my little baby girl.

Sending healing vines and positive thoughts and prayers for your little baby girlkitty,Tigger.

Karen, I'm so sorry about Tigger.

I've been watching anxiously to hear good news, but I didn't post. You see, my Emme died earlier this spring, with low rbc and hematocirt, and I didn't want to post with such negative input. But I've had you in my thoughts. I'm just sorry your story didn't end better. My heart goes out to you.

Thanks I need prayers can't stop crying sitting here looking at all her toys and keep finding more all over bed, sofa in corners. Still have toys in closet that she never even got to play with. Tigger always loved to play and I always bought soo many toys. Cabinet is full of food cause never knew what flavor she would be in the mood for. She had soo many favorites. She was too young to go and only wish I had more time with her.
