Thanks Rebbecca

Hopefully this will just add to the tools at our disposal for helping our extra sweet furkids.

Thank you, Rebecca!!

I think there is a real need for this new forum, and I hope that many will find a home here. Although I no longer have a diabetic cat, I will try to check in here regularly and offer what support I can to others.

I have nothing against the (TR) Lantus forum. It works very well for many people, and they have had wonderful successes. But it is not for everyone and, I think, can be very intimidating for a newbie.

Although I lurked there and read (and certainly learned), it did not work for me. It just didn't fit my time and lifestyle, and it didn't fit my goals for Tiger.

Would I have been thrilled if Tiger had gone OTJ? Absolutely, I would have been ecstatic. But remission was not my goal - my goal from day 1 was having a happy, healthy cat. A goal we achieved. Tiger was diabetic for 4-1/2 years, and for all that time her QOL was great. She thought FD was the best thing that ever happened to her. After 12 years as a barn cat she became a house cat. ;) When we lost her to cancer at 16-1/2 years old she was as playful as a kitten!

Thanks, Rebecca,

This is a great addition to the support boards. I will try and post here about my adventures with 8 (yes that is eight) diabetic cats. Obviously, I am unable to post for 8 cats on a daily basis. My cats each have their own meter which has a memory that I can download if I need to check trends.

I have one cat, Makita, that I can't test. He allows shots but goes ballistic when anyone gets near his ears. Every couple of weeks, a friend and I pin him down and get 3 tests in a day. He went in for his annual and a look at him mouth two weeks ago. His frucosamine was 354 (basically normal). So, even without testing him daily, we do have him regulated. I watch his food, water intake and urine output. The other thing I watch is the condition of his skin and his activity level.

Thanks again for this very valuable board.

Claudia

Hi Rebecca,

Thanks for starting this forum. I am a relative newby and still trying to figure out what works best from me and my sweet Lucy.

While I am trying to follow the TR protocol as closely as possible, my work schedule is fairly erratic so I will not always be able to check as often as suggested or post regularly to the boards. So having this option is ideal for me.

Thanks again. - kally and lucy

Most awesome! I'm an infrequent visitor these days, but I can tell you that if I ever needed to give insulin again, there is no way I'd be able to follow any sort of TR schedule and I know that there are countless others in the same situation.
