PJ was at 254 last night and 167 this a.m. I was worried about giving her 1u so I did .5u. She'll probably be higher tonight...it seems as though she has switched to what her numbers were at the beginning - lower in p.m. & higher in a.m. Now she's lower in a.m. and higher in p.m. Yeesh! Nov 12th was the only day it was mid range a.m. and p.m. I guess she's got to "mix it up".

I read Laura & Jacks post and thinking PJ could be doing the same thing as Jack. I will plan to do a curve this Sunday and see what she does...although as far as feeding my hubby gives her either a bit of canned food or boiled chicken in the middle of the day when he's there. There are a few days that neither of us are home so she goes all day w/no food....not quite sure what she's doing

The curve should give you so good info about the dose and whether it needs to go up or down.

Would an automatic feeder be a helper mid day?

The PetSafe 5 has been used successfully by a number of our members.

Also, you could try freezing a bit the meal before and putting it out to be nibbled as it thaws.

Re: PJ 11/15/13 167

Auto feeder wouldn't work - I have 5 other cats in the house and 2 of them Ithat would get to it before PJ. I would have to close her up in a room and I hate to do that to her. She's not sociable with the other cats and would think she would like being away from them but you know how they get when they think they're locked in and can't escape.

As I said most days my husband is at home so I may think about putting her in the extra room when he will be away most of the day and look into the auto feeders...hopefully they're not too expensive.

Is that 1/2 can of the large Friskies or the small one? I was wondering if they are getting enough food. Here's an easy guide for how much to feed:

20-30 calories per pound of ideal body weight, per day. That will keep a healthy cat at its ideal weight. The range of calories is dependent upon a few factors, one of which would be level of activity.

I feed her morning and evening a bit over 1/2 cup of canned, mid-day he feeds her either some boiled chicken or a small can of Fancy Feast, then at night before I go to bed (about 11:00p) I feed her some more chicken. She's a very small cat and only weighs about 6lbs...she's always been petite and mostly hair. Also, she's never been very active at all...

I've never calculated the calories - I usually just feed them according to how their appetite has always been...
