This dog has a set of jaws like vice grips and of course two of the pills are huge. He also knows there's something in the chicken I so lovingly cooked for him, ungrateful mutt!
I've never had to look before, are there pill guns this big?
I mean like this big <..........................................................................> :blackeye:
 
You've got to try what I call turkey surprise. (Or whatever food he can't resist. I used turkey and sometimes roast beef. ) You get three pieces of a favorite food. Show the animal. Only the second one has the surprise. Give the first bite so they know what it is. Tastes good cuz nothing in it. Show the other two. Give the one with the surprise.... And they eat it fast to get the third one. Bam!
 
I stick my hand into the mouth and throat of my German Shepherd, shove the pill down, then remove my hand, hold her snout closed, and rub her throat until she swallows. She trusts me so she lets me do it, even though she's not happy about it. No pill gun needed and no pill gun to get bitten, snapped, broken, chewed, or swallowed.
 
Larry, I did say a dog and not a pony didn't I? That thing is 17 inches long, maybe Amazon is where aliens get their anal probe supplies.
There are four reviews for this product, the first is "Good product but really too large for most sheep or goats. More appropriate size for horses and cattle".
I need the dog to trust me, not to think I'm extracting a shotgun shell.
 
What I found that actually works best with dogs ( at least with mine and my sister's) because they can't taste the pill and can't really take it out as it happens with other food like sausages or chicken is I cover the pill with cream cheese (if you can get the one that is spreadable is even easier ) and make a small ball of cream cheese and that is what I give since they feel it soft they don't try to chew it and pretty much they just swallow it and even want more, when I first started I gave them a small ball about the size of a bean of just the cream cheese, gave them that a couple of times at different times of the day and then started putting the pills in.

So far it has worked with very small pills and I think the bigger one I've given is about the size of a 0 or 00 gel cap or something in between

In my vast collection of expired meds and other dust collectors I dug up my largest feeding syringe. I drilled out the end (if the women don't find you handsome they should at least find you handy) and presto! I think I had buried that syringe so far back because it does not bring back pleasant memories.
It was next to my Fabergé egg and some stupid stamp with an upside down airplane. I really need to clean this place up.
Now the drama is over and Jordie has stopped sneering at me. Why didn't I think of this first? I blame society (but not you Larry). The goat says hi.
 
Continuing success with none of the emotional trauma of cramming something into a cat that just doesn't want it. Crush the pills between two spoons, mix with dog food and a few drops of water and voilà. No drama and only a bit of resistance. That cats and dogs actually know you're trying to help is not a myth, it's a sign of trust and that doesn't come without intelligence. If only the dog's former owners could see what has become of "That stupid dog". It's their loss, he's better off here and the cats love him. They think one day soon they'll get Jordie back. Sorry, you had your chance.
If any newbies are reading this don't be put off by the thought of syringe feeding.

Hahaha. I did the same thing with my dogs. Three pieces. 1st - taste. 2nd - meds. 3rd - chaser. Worked "almost" everytime. Love it.
Miss my doggies. But have my hands full with the kittehs.
 
I can't imagine not having a dog in the home. We're lucky to have so much parkland around here and now we're thinking about getting another Border Collie. I'm a bit OCD about numbers. We're down to five cats but I think six or eight is a nice round (and more importantly even) number. When we had nine this was a house of pure joy, just don't tell the bylaw enforcement officer.

All of my critters, feline and canine alike, have refused to eat food "contaminated" this way :eek:
They are also wise to stuff hidden in treats. Remember, their sense of smell is much better than ours.
