Phosphorous in Fancy Feast

Does anybody know if the FF Classics are high in phos? I know the other types are pretty high but I'm not sure about the classics. That seems to be the food Chocolate likes best and she eats it all up almost right away and I think that gives us better bg numbers but she's 15 and I didn't really want her having food with high phos. but if it will keep her bg better then maybe it's just better that way?

Does chocolate have kidney problems or are you just watching the phosphorus levels because she's older?

If phosphorus is a concern, the FF classics aren't the best thing to feed. The values that we have for them are a bit outdated, but they do show that they all have a higher phosphorus content.

If you need a lower cost, low phos food, the Friskies Special Diet Pates are all low phosphorus. If you can afford a premium food without byproducts, EVO, Wellness, and Merricks all make flavors that have no byproducts (easier on the kidneys) and are lower in phosphorus, and I'd be happy to post those for you.

As far as I know she doens't have kidney problems I just wanted to keep the phos. lower because she's older. The cost isn't the issue but she doesn't really care for the Merricks or Wellness. I haven't tried EVO. Which EVO ones are good? I could try Friskies I guess but I just know she likes the FF ones.

Hi, just thought I would chime in here as I now feed my cat EVO 95% chicken & turkey which is 155 phosphorous at 4% carbs. Just started my 14 year old on it and he loves it. He has some kidney issues now and the vet said to stay below 200 in the phos area.
Hope that helps...

Thanks I'll try that...I just bought the nature's variety raw chicken and she doesn't go crazy for it but if I put it on my finger she'll lick it off then go for the bowl. I'm sure thats probably the best option but the frozen raw is just so inconvenient.

Merricks Cowboy Cookout, Surf & Turf, Before Grain Beef, and Before Grain Turkey are all good in the phosphorus department. Did you try any of those flavors? The first three have higher protein/lower fat values, which is also good for senior cats.

Wellness Turkey And Chicken flavors are lower in phosphorus. And as Pam mentioned, EVO 95% Chicken and Turkey. I prefer the first three Merricks flavors because they have less fat.

What does the EVO 95 look like? Is it loafy? Does it smell like cat food? I found the Merrick before grain smelt strangely not like cat food and she didn't care for it at all which was frustrating becuz it seemed like one of the best foods to try. She'll eat the Cowboy Cookout and especially Surf N Turf but she seems to really like the FF she'll eat almost all of it in one shot whereas with any other food she come and goes and I'd rather her eat all at once cuz it seems to keep the bg better

the EVO 95% looks a lot like the Before Grain--i think it's a little more finely ground than the Before Grain, though. What about mixing a little Fancy feast in with the Merricks or EVO? A little bit of Fancy Feast isn't going to affect the phos levels much.
