Phoebe Squeak is a very bouncy kitty. I'm wondering if we should try Levemir instead of Lantus.
Any and all advice appreciated.
Thanks! J.J.

Thanks very much, Carla. I appreciate that. I'm hoping some folks using Levemir will chime in. Please kiss Purrball for me.I've heard Levemir can sometimes help bouncy kitties. I don't really know anything about it.![]()
Thank you very much. I really appreciate your advice and I will look at Luci's ss.We switched to Lev over a year ago - so glad we did. If you look back at our SS (not our recent ones, issues with thyroid kinda threw her off)...you'll the bounces slowed and we got into a better place with lower rolling curves...at least that was my impression.
Thank you, Marje. That would be a very big change so I appreciate you explaining it to me. I will look at Gracie's SS.We generally say that if an insulin isn’t working after six months, try a different one. I loved Levemir for so many reasons and Gracie did so much better on it but it didn’t stop all the bouncing.
The bigger issue is that onset is about +4 and nadir is +8 to +12. That means you will likely have to test more at night to catch any lows. You would need to test at least until onset and then decide from there. The curve is very different. Also, because the nadir is later, you have to get used to shooting lower BGs (above 68 since you are using an AT).
Gracie, on Levemir, could sometimes get 15 hours of duration. That was great for carryover and overlap but I had to shoot low. She tended to do worse in the winter and would start to do much better in the spring. But you’ll see she didn’t quit bouncing although she bounced less. I think her 2015 SS also shows that she probably had that IBD going on. Her previous lev SSs, which are linked on the one you can access, looked better.Thank you, Marje. Thanks again! All very good info. Lots to think about. I appreciate you taking the time to help me (and so many others).Gracie, on Levemir, could sometimes get 15 hours of duration. At first, it kind of feels like you are starting over as you get used to the very different curve but you should adjust quickly. Also, it can take 3-4 months for some cats to really start looking better on Lev. Gracie’s dose had to go up a little over the Lantus dose but then came down.
You’re welcome, JJ. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks again! All very good info. Lots to think about. I appreciate you taking the time to help me (and so many others).
