Petsafe Automatic 5 Feeder

I just received the Petsafe Auto5 feeder and was playing with it last night so Maximus can get used to the sounds, etc. I want to wait until I can be home to use it for real.

I do have a question though - does the feeder give any indication of when it's low on batteries? How long do the batteries generally last? I have a fear it will lose its juice one day while I'm out and I'll come home to a hypo kitty.

Good question! I wondered the same thing as I have it also. Before I went on vaca in April, I changed the batteries to new ones so that there would be no issue with the Pet sitter. 1800-732-2677 going to call them right now to see if they have an answer.

Okay, just got off the phone with them. The PetSafe 5 does not have a low battery indicator, and was told the batteries should last 6 -12 months. Guess it just depends on how frequently you have it set to open up. I think I will err on the side of caution and just change them every 6 months to be safe.

Wow that was fast, thank you! I guess I could change them when I change the smoke alarm batteries. :D
I just emailed them to see if I can buy an extra tray.

That's a good idea to change all your batteries at the same time or whenever you can remember to do it. I think I will indicate on my SS when it's time to change them so I won't forget.

I've had these feeders for 5+ years. The batteries don't just do an abrupt halt. The motor will start to sound slower when you need to change the batteries. Once you're used to the regular noise you will notice when it sounds different.
